What pound test line do you guys use for jigging and tip up fishing northerns?  What kind of leaders do you use?  Steel, heavy floro?

I use 45 lb polaris tip up line tied to a 20 lb steel leader. I have never jigged for them so I can't help you there.

30# green dot dacron, 50# terminator leader. I am going to try flouro this year. I bought 40# Tripple Fish leader material.

I am putting on 30# Mason on any tipups that need replacing this season and tieable tyger leader.  Lost too many pike to brakeoffs last year.  mainly due to  cruddy store bought steel leaders.

Fishing should be the exercise of your skills- and its rewards the places it brings you to

Today was my first time using 50 lb mono leaders. Caught a 7, 7.5, 8.5 and 10 lb, not even a nick on the line.

I had 2 big pike bite through 80 lb mono last year. I'll never use mono again...too soft. This year I'm trying 80 lb floro on half my traps, 50 lb boa titanium on the other half

How about 6# vanish leader.  Granted I have never caught a real monster but I've landed a 36 in.  12 lb pike on it    I use the same set up for lakers and walleye

That was my concern .. if the teeth hit it right (wrong!) i think they would cut right through anythinf but a steel leader.

I lost 3 fish today on 20 lb mono!
Goin' where the wind don't blow so strange,
Maybe off on some high cold mountain chain.
