Eskimo 650XD vs CLAM X600
« on: Dec 14, 2020, 07:15 PM »
Hey all, my apologies if this belongs in a different spot.
I’m in the market for a new hub shelter and I’ve narrowed my search to either the Eskimo 650XD or Clam X600. Does anyone have experience with one or both these shelters?

Things in a shelter that are important to me:
Pole rigidity
Zipper strength
Hub reliability
Ease of packing in carry bag
Insulation quality
Overall weight and packed size

My only frame of reference is with older models of either, so I’m looking for some real use reviews to help me out.
Please and thanks!

I can't speak for the Eskimo But I do personally have the Clam X600. so here is the stuff about the X600 that you asked :

Poles : they are 11mm heavy duty poles and are very rigid.
Hubs : very heavy duty and well built. (in the event a hub or pole fails and needs to be replaced Clam has replacement hub kits that include not only the hub but a full set of poles for that hub.)
Zipper : older Clam hubs had zipper issues but all the recent stuff use better heavier zippers now.
Carry Bag : Clam uses over sized carry bags and also includes a strap to put around the house and help compress it so it fits in the bag easier.
Weight and specs : I will add a link for this.

One plus for the Clam X600 is that you have the option to buy the add on floor for it if that is something you would be interested in at some point.

The new Eskimo Outbreak 650XD is new this year.  Unless some product tester will chime in on prototype field tests.
