HYALITE HAPPINESS!!!
« on: Jan 22, 2023, 02:02 PM »
I am a regular fisherman at Hyalite. The tasty brook trout and cutties provide consistent fishing and catching. Normally, I rarely see any other anglers. Maybe it's more crowded on weekends but weed days are quiet and peaceful. Areas around the dam face have been good producers. I am hooking plenty of fish but the size this year and quantity of brook trout has dropped. My average sized keeper Cut has been 14-15 inches. The brookies have been around 10 inches. You can keep 20 brooks and 5 cuts a day. Both are tasty but brooks are my favorite. I have not been able to hook more than several keeper brookies an outing. Standard jigs tipped with worm or maggots is the ticket. Most other anglers that I talk to get skunked. This lake is a great place to teach kids. There is no cell phone signal so the focus is on fishing. Ice is plenty thick at around 15 plus inches. Enjoy!

Fished Hyalite again this week. The road to the lake is super slick. Be careful. Snow on the ice makes travel harder. I fished near the dam tower in 17 feet of water. Fishing was consistent but few bigger fish and fewer brookies. Only 2 other shanties on the ice. Fishing was a tad slower than usual. Managed 10 keepers but nothing over 15 inches. Lots of cuts 9-12 inches. Very cold and light snow. Holes kept freezing over.

We fished Hyalite on Thursday. Heavy snow. Tough getting on and around the ice and snow piles from plowing. Ice as deep as the auger could cut. Thicker ice near shore and could not hit water. Fishing super slow. I think it is so dark under the ice that the fish are in estivation early this year. More snow coming. Hyalite may be done for the season.

You’re unfamiliar with the Hyalite lungfish?
YOU are the only one who can decide if the ice is safe enough for you.

Torpor is likely the word he was looking for but that really isn’t a great fit either.

O2 deprived is probs the best description… it’s a definite thing this year with the early freeze up.

Hyalite happiness just got sadder. The new trout limit is 5. Apparently, the brook trout eradication program has ended. No 20 brookie limit. The only restriction is to catch and release grayling. I will miss the mega limit.

Thanks for the updates. Anxious to get up toe Hyalite before the ice season is over.

Better hurry, I think the road closes the first.
