Hey Mat...I’m thinking it’s all open water or possibly a little skim ice in spots.
Nowhere near ready.
Just an FYI if you’re looking anything up for this lake it is Bantam.

Most of the lake only had 1-2” of black ice on Sunday so I’m sure it opened back up in the storm, and it’s been too windy and not cold enough to have safe ice by tomorrow. This storm was like pressing the reset button.

Thats a negative.  Wind has been preventing ice formation.

Chris, can’t wait for your ice report.  All of us that leave far away really appreciate these reports before we drive 45 mins to check it ourselves.  All of us work together👏🏻

I didn’t drive by Bantam but did see Mt. Tom yesterday. Not good.

With Mt. Tom being in that unready condition it’s hard to believe Bantam would be fishable.

They’re only 8 miles apart (as the crow flies) and Tom is 300 ft. higher up.  :o

Yep.  You were all right and I was wrong.  No ice on Bantam. So I went to winchester lake.  4-5" on 75% of the lake.  With 25% wide open.  Weird.  8 hours not a single flag.  Saw only one nice pike caught the entire day.  About 500 people out there, was like a zoo.  Everyone on top of each other.  I will not be back any time soon.

That sucks man. Was hoping to hear better news for Bantam. Yeah, Winchester honestly is my least favorite place to fish for that reason. Always mobbed and just not a great fishery compared to other places.

Cove at Sandy Beach was fully frozen over 01/09/2021 but haven't checked the thickness. I'll check it out tomorrow.  Always the first ice and the last ice out. I have fished there many times late in the season when the whole rest of the lake was open water. Disappointing though that they have posted no trespassing signs at the entrance. Don't recall ever seeing that before. The rest of the lake was open yesterday except for some edges at south bay and near the Litchfield boat launch.

Wouldn't it be great if everyone who asked for info posted some? It's common courtesy. That being said, easy on the tar and feathers guys.  ;) Sometimes there's a valid reason why you don't get a conditions post, like if the person was born in 2012. Many guys (kids) use their year of birth in their screen name. Not saying it's the case, just something to consider.

Good point eiderz.
We had some ice-making weather the last two nights, but now it's supposed to warm back up, with rain and 40s for Saturday. It's been a "two steps forward, two steps back" season so far. I just bought my Maine license for 2021.

I'm hoping for a night on the ice before the warmup. Otherwise it looks like Maine.

Half the country away, but in the same boat. We keep getting marginally fishable ice on smaller ponds, then a warmup that destroys the edges, so it's unfishable until the next colder spell. It's better than last year, but still frustrating as heck 🙄
