These can use the old 5ah batteries and perform like the 996 or use newer batteries with 21700 cells and have significantly more power.  6ah 20v, NEW 6ah flexvolt, 8ah 20v, 9ah flexvolt, and 12ah flexvolt should all give it the extra boost.

If the HD MSRP pricing is legit for the bare tool at $179 its a good option at $199 .. just hasnt been put through the real world ice auger test ..still I"m Milwaukee man as it has been put through the paces ..and I dont recall alot of IS members using the 996 as the cordless drill ..maybe tons just not recall them.

Dewalt drills don't have the IS cult following of the Milwaukee Fuel but the 996 has definitely been put through the paces.  The 999 & 998 are basically new generation 996 with upgraded motors and electronics for more performance with new battery technology (21700 cells).  Housing, clutch, and handle are all virtually the same with the exception of the handle being longer.

Glad you chimed in..I just dont recall the chatter .. Do you have a Dewalt set up ? ..I started w/Dewalt 771 (blowed up) then onto the Dewalt 985 it was ok but then went with the 2704-22 w/5 ah ..found this for Milwaukee battery guide good read.. also been noticing some decent Milwaukee battery deals kits/singles etc ..probably to get rid of stock and get a 21700 model line up ..just my thought

Both the dewalt 771 and 985 were more consumer grade with brushed motors. More comparable to the non-fuel milwaukee's. The dewalt 995/996 and now 998/999 are the comparable to Milwaukee fuel drills and is basically a matter of pick whatever color you like better. They will both get the job done equally.

Frabill bait coolers are on sale now at amazon - the 19qt is now $71 (was $99) and 13 at is $68 was ($80 or $90)

avoid those Frabil coolers as the air pump is proprietary, once is dies you're screwed...

I have an Engel that I really like. I did replace the stock aerator with the Clam lithium, but it is well worth it IMO.

But if you go thru Cabelas on Active Junky you get another 10% back.  I own that camera, the LED light quit working after the second outing....then it got put away til the next year and the warranty came and went...not sure if you actually need the light anyway but it would be nice.

because it uses a special mold air compressor that exactly fits into the lid top, I never looked into if you could purchase a replacement from Frabil.  I returned it for a Engel that uses the standard side metal clip holder so you can use any brand compressor with it.  The Engels are much better imo

If anyone wants to get their hands on the new dewalt hammer drill they're supposedly having a pretty sweet deal next week. They have the flexvolt advantage hammer drill with a starter kit for $179.
