Leave dead piece of bait in a bucket of freshwater- close the lid- let is sit there inside not above 80 degrees for at least 12hours- the fish begins to decay and becomes mushy- now before you send it out there make sure to find there air bladder and pop the sun of a gun with a squeeze- the smell will make you wanna die but the oils released on the way down will call any big burbot in.

Where are you fishing for burbot PoP?  Near a washed out cemetary or sewage plant?  If you are, stick with the rotten flesh. :-X :-[ :D   Fresh live bait or fresh frozen bait is best for burbot IMHO.  Good luck....

Burbot are very efficient predators (as evidenced by the 22" sucker in a 36" burbot), so I'd agree that you shouldn't need to use stink baits.

Frozen salted or live minnows ought to do the trick.

Nothing but the freshest bait for this burbot cowboy. If I was fishing for catfish I might make it stinky but not for burbot. Up here in BC I had some older bait (but by no means stinky) and newer bait and did some experimenting. Short story: I'd say they preferred the newer bait 9 times out of 10

Never needed stink baits either. ???
Live or dead minnows have always worked.
Glow-in the dark spoons  will draw them in & also catch some also.

Good Luck
