Small shiners are a good choice, but I feel it is best to go with wigglers, spkes {red and wt} and wax worms also. Put minnow on dead stick and try the grubs or wigglers on other pole. Allowed two lines in Mi.
-
has anyone tyred putting maggots on there tip ups?
-
On days I don't feel like moving much, I put small to medium emerald shiners out on a wide spread of tip-ups, and jig one pole with two jigs + mousies or spikes, and one pole with a pimple tipped with a minnow or minnow head. Flag goes up, off I go with the jigging rod and actively fish that hole until it dries up. This is in NY, where we're allowed 5 tip-ups and 2 hand lines.
-
I've caught a lot of perch on red maggots. Bait shop adds red dye to what ever and it changes them red.
-
Catch the first one, then remove an eye!! The best perch and walleye bait that you will get. They last for a long time.
-
I agree with Bushbunny---the eyes work and last longer.
-
Do the perch eye have to be fresh or could you take them out at home and refrigerate the for the next day to fish with ?
-
They can be refrigerated and used quite effectively. I have done it on many occasions.
-
Hey thanks bushbunny . I wish i would have saved the eyes out of the ten i cleaned the other day when i thought of that .
-

tried it yesterday and did ok it works the same as anything else would
-
sometimes Ill go buy some cocktail shrimps and use them .they work pretty good and you can snack on them also.
-
this sounds strange but it works where i fish.. i take some small strips of bacon fat... if that doesnt work then i use eyes once i catch one
-
I find meal worms to be the best for me.
-
the absoulte best perch bait is the wiggler (mayfly larvae) hands down
-
my favorite is a hali sukkala with the lil dropper chain in glow green...
we have a lil lake here packed full of perch last time out my brother and i caught well over 100 in about 3 hours.....we sat side beside he tried all different lures jigging rappalas...fiska jigs which was our 2nd place lure by the way tipped with a small fathead minnow head....forage minnow...but i out fished them probably 10-1 with the hali....i tipped it with the following #1 was a perch eye a close 2nd was a night crawler piece and 3rd a minnow head then waxies and maggots...the trick was to pound the bottom and watch the vex ...they would follow it up about a foot the you had to slowly rise and fall it about 1 inch just enough to slowly maove the bait...
-

I have tryed it once but with no luck. Maybe ill try it again.
-
I use a variety of baits to get the perch to hit, but yesterday was a little different. The perch were hittting well all day, but we were getting alot of 6-8 inch perch that were causing alot of baiting. I had left over pizza for lunch and a piece of pepperoni fell on the floor. I decide to put it on my Hali jig and sure enough I landed a 11 inch perch. The next four fish were this size and all caught on pepperoni. My fishing partner was laughing his ass off. I my have to stop at the deli before I go fishing. hahahahaha :D
-
Hali's have worked well for me.Tipped with a piece of crawler , pike or mousie.Jigging a small rapala has produced the most larger perch for me.I have one with the paint just about gone from it.Sometimes glow jigs tipped with the previous mentioned before or some of berkleys gulp maggots in natural or hot pink. And of course small minnows.
I change jigs alot if they stop hitting a certain size or color and most times that does the trick to warm up a cooling down hole. And moving alot in the area I'm fishing seems to dry up
-
Smaller perch/bluegills :)
-
spikes or minnows til i get a perch, funny thing, the first one ends up blind everytime
-
Perch eye or a little slice of meat of the tail.
-
Wax worm on a genz worm or on a pimple works for me and if your lucky the fish will hit even with out bait on the hook. ;D
-
Best bait for Perch wigglers!! :icefish:
-
Best bait for Perch wigglers!! :icefish:
grass shrimp
-
mmm...shrimp and pepperoni...gonna try em...if the fish won't eat em, I will...
-
mealworms seem to work the best for me the past few seasons
-
I do well with oak leaf grubs
-
Minnow heads......... best thing ever!!!!! ;D :o ;D   :icefish:

-

At least you know you hard earned money won't go to waste!! Yum Yum ;D

RED OR PINK SPIKES

what is a wiggler? kind of like a dobson fly?
-

A wiggler is a Mayfly larvae.
-
snow-snake(little pikerel) eyes warmed up, 'n' scented :-* from your arm-pits :o
-
Swedish pimple tipped with a waxie or minnow.
-
I usually start with a nice fat T-bone steak to chum up the water they come in like pirahna. LOL some of the bait you guy's use are craking me up. Never used the fish eyes but will now for sure. Fathead minnows have been working the best for us.
-
The best bait for me is fatheads and eyeballs but i always cut the minnow in half and jig it with a forged minnow jig! works great
-
Spikes till you can pop out an eye. Oak leaf bugs always work well ;D
-
eyes and fatheads
-
fathead minnows under tip downs and tipped on buckshot minnows and tiger jigs
-
depends some days all they want is the minnows other days all they want is small worms and sometimes if they dont want the minnows or worms for what ever reason the jump all over nigh crawler tails dont know why though
-
they love maggots
-
mostly fathead minnows on a small jig, but sometimes mousies or spikes.
-
the absoulte best perch bait is the wiggler (mayfly larvae) hands down
wigglers have their days as do live minnows and minnow heads on the lindy rattlin flyer techno perch color works every time to get their attention ;D
-
I use swedish pimples or small rapala jigging rap tipped with spikes
-
alas no work to them they are scavangers that relish smelt.... bait thiefs! they bite on a rusty hook!
-

Thanks PerchEyes

1) Fathead on a plain hook with a flasher a foot above it.
2) Have a small jig, put the hook in a fathead's mouth, run the point out the belly. Let it sit on the bottom, the minnow will struggle to right itself, perch come in to investigate...
3) Eyes
4) Bibbets, hali's, pimples in that order
5) jig with maggots or such
-
i like a white swedish pimple the bigger ones with a single hook (treble gets caught on the ice causing the loss of several 12 inchers) tipped with a fathead until i catch a keeper then perch eyes from there and i also like to add a small jig 6-8 inches above the pimple. i like the orange or pink grubs with a tail
-
i use mostly spikes or mousies but i find that minnow heads work best.
-
techni glo with a couple maggots on each point of the treble hook, although there are days when meal worms or eyes work better
-
I just ordered a Few pimples and tecnhi's I hope they work. The perch on lake charlevoix are finicky (i dont have a camera or flasher) So i sit in one spots. Good luck to me this year :p
-
had good luck today on the bigger perch with a 1/16 oz rattlin flyer (lindy)
-
had good luck today with a 1/16 oz rattlin flyer for bigger perch
-
i got one on a dingle-berry one time...no lie
-
I have always had luck on a 1/16 forage minnow with spikes on it. I have also had some luck with small fatheads.
-
I jig more than any other technique and caught my share of perch, but a dead stick or tip down set with a small tremble and fat head have for me produced the real GIANTS!
-
Glow hali jig w/perch eye slays them every time.......
-
i like the dingle berry idea...only problem is gettin 'em...safely
-
Small white grub with maggots or fish eyes have always allowed me to take home dinner.
-
It a depends on the body of water im fishing at the time. Puppet minnows with fatheads and pimples, forage minnows with spikes. If they are fusy i down size.
-
Does anyone know if it's legal to use perch eyes as bait in Montana. I can't seem to find anything about it in the regs?
-
you can use any part of the fish that isn't edible eyes/bellymeat
-
i like to use small buckeyes minnows and my favorite jig orange glow forage minnow works for me and of course my vex lol
-
My favorite bait is...............Perch-Eye !!!
-
white ice swedish pimple with a fathead or perch eye, great for trout too
-
My favorite bait is...............Perch-Eye !!!
x2

This winter I've been having amazing luck on a small Kast-Master spoon, tipped with a chunk of crawler or maggots. Have brought home a couple hundred of the tasty little suckers in the last month or so. Also caught a mess of brookies on the same thing yesterday. Awesome little lure. Drop it to the bottom, lift it up a few inches, drop it fast so it flashes a bit. They won't leave the damn thing alone.
-
perch eyes.................. ...................eve ry time
-
Maggots are great perch eyes are even greater.
-
I always have the best luck with hali and wax worm
-
Hali (small) with a sz.18 treble on a 1" dropper of mono. Waxworms work good unless they are really being bite shy. -bite shy, perch eye! ;)
-
I like to tie up afew dropper baits and always set tip-ups out they keep me busy sometimes i cant even jig
-
swedish pimple tipped w/ worm works for me
-
How do you get the eye out without it bursting. I tried to pop out a couple with no success
-
Sweedish pimple....single hook...tipprd with mister twister tweenie grubs! I use the lumanecent (glow in the dark). The 2 most important factors are weedlines and current....put all 3 together and work the colum from bottom to top..
-
5 inch smelt on a tip up
-
How do you get the eye out without it bursting. I tried to pop out a couple with no success
Take your thumb and push hard on the bottom of the eye socket. It will pop right out.
-
Thanks I will try that my friend
