Bait or no bait early ice

I find fish are relatively aggressive early ice. I have a real hard time going just artificial. I pretty much always fish with jig and spikes or a small slender spoon and spikes for panfish and minnow heads on spoons, jiggin raps, etc. For walleye, perch.

It would kind of be the end purpose...for the frying pan...you should have bait.

If just ice fishing...no bait.  It's more fun to catch'm on artificial lures.

Early ice, I tend to use larger profile lures to pick out the larger fish from the schools.

Bait always probably improves success by at least 5x

Glowjigger:
For panfish I don't use bait much anymore but when kokanee fishing I like to tip the hook with some corn.
