Am I hallucinating or is that someone's portable ice shanty off from Chapman Park? I know it has been a little colder lately but it is hard to believe the ice is safe. I see lots of open water on the North Shore webcam. Well we all have a different comfort level for ice thickness, but it just seems extremely risky to me.

It looks like the walleyes got off pretty easy.

I got out a couple more times in the past 2 weeks and did decent. I tried to get out this afternoon and the little bit of ice that is left is beyond shot.

I guess we were lucky to get on the ice at all this winter.

This was from my last trip last week. I even had a nice surprise. I am guessing the pike was at least 36”.  I released it.

Beautiful pike Reeleyz!  It must have put up a good fight on a walleye pole.  I would have had a hard time releasing it, what trapper said.  They are delish.

I could tell immediately that it wasn’t a walleye. It fought more erratic like an Atlantic. It took quite a while to turn the head up the hole. I’m lucky that the spoon was sticking out of her mouth so the line didn’t get bit off.

I have only caught a few pike on Oneida and this is the only one I have ever got through the ice here. I figure they are somewhat rare and might as well let her go.

Had a good few weeks on the Big O this year since Chautauqua didn't lock up the way it should. But, I was in the timeout chair again here for a few months, so I guess I've learned my lesson and wasn't able to share reports.
Wishing everyone a happy and healthy 2023.

I'm planning an ice fishing trip with a bunch of my buddies looking at different cottages on the lake found a nice one on the west south side of the lake that we are considering but wondering how the fishing is on that end of the lake if it's worth it or if I should just find something on the east side
