I refer to the beach as the soup bowl fish meandering about , far as safe ice ,a spud is your best friend this time of year ,
And fish should be staging up , good luck

20 shacks out from the beach right now. Just passed by there on my way to estimate a job. They aren’t very far off shore. You should only need to get out to 17-21 feet of water and you should be on the fish. Definitely spud your way out like mentioned above. Also saw few shanties off the north shore.

That Atlantic looks awesome, congrats. Few guys out at Lewis PT shore seems to be holding in spots, cracks are a little wet. Put my gear up yesterday.

That’s a brown trout.

Had to look again but I think your right. Spots and tail look Atlantic but the eye looks brown. I don't catch enough of either to know for sure. Still an amazing catch.

That’s a brown trout.

Looks like a Brown to me too.
-forked tail
- some spots below the lateral line
-and the most telling feature is the jaw extend past the eye

Still impressive. A brown trout and Atlantic is very very rare on Oneida.

ok i dont know what it is , other then nice fish, but this what i looked up salmon forked tail and back of jaw no farther then back of eye, brown square tail jaw beyond eye... so i guess i would go with salmon but i have no real idea

Fished sylvan beach this afternoon from 12 to 5 pm.   Caught 2 keeper walleye and 16 descent yellow perch.   About 20 people fishing when I left.

With a forked tail and no red spots I'm thinking salmon. But they are so close.

My last ice trip out this year I caught what I thought to be a brown trout. Was 18” and after looking at reeleyz fish it looks strikingly similar. Thought it was the coolest thing. I fudged the picture though ha! Neat to know their are a few in there.

I landed this one in north bay 3 ice seasons ago. Came in halfway up the water column and smashed my kast master. What a fight! I’m still not sure which of the 2 species the fish was someone at the time said a club up fish creek was doing trial releases with landlocked salmon. Not sure how much truth there is to that. Pritty cool either way

I believe Atlantic salmon have been released in Fish Creek since 1997, a friend of mine and retired ECO belonged to the club at the start.

The fight was awesome and the one I caught was only about 17”. I knew immediately it wasn’t a perch, walleye, or burbot.

That’s awesome! Similar bite for me too haha. Was ripping a PK flutter spoon 3’ off bottom and fish screamed up and crushed it. Was a great little fight.  Fish I caught looked identical.  Very cool!

I think iceman’s fish is a brown. Square tail and the mouth goes well behind the eye.

Mine the mouth was even with the eye and the tail slightly forked. Confident that it was an Atlantic.

Either way some rare catches!

Yes the square tail definitely makes me think brown but like all you guys said, either way very cool to hear and see pics of different species of fish coming out of the lake. Yesterday morning was my last day out. Made it out with a buddy, far from a banner morning but we found some perch and eyes willing to play. Thanks again to everyone posting conditions tips or just fishing stories in general. I’m ready for spring and some open water fishing although I know it won’t be long and I’ll be missing that steady hummmmmmmmmmmm of my flasher and the smell and glow of my propain heater going. Good luck to anyone still making it out on the hard stuff
