I got a 23” burbot about 5 years ago, 23’ off sylvan. Was dejected from not catching any walleyes and slamming a snap rap on bottom and got slammed. I thought I had a nice walleye, but up slithered mr burbot. It was a nice surprise and are well with the few perch we had caught. Def do not think you can target them, as others have said.

I've caught a few but never kept them. Got a giant trolling with leadcore on bottom of lake erie this summer and threw it back. I told myself i was gonna try the next one. Caught one on Oneida few weeks ago 16.7 ft of water and kept it. The cleaning process was different, made like i would lobster and it was actually really good. Was shocked! I'll keep going forward. Just one man's opinion.

Thanks for sharing, looks pretty good! I haven't caught any in about 5 years like many others have commented. Got some off Chapmans on tip-ups with minnows.

ice is in great shape perfect for wheelers if you have a sled that needs snow not to over heat may be an issue

The burbot can go back down the hole as quick, if not quicker that it came up through the hole. Could never understand why people killed them for no reason. Coyote bait? 🙄 I have caught a few in my days on the ice. It’s been roughly 5 years since I’ve caught one.

I’m pretty new to the lake and hoping to do better tomorrow than I did last time. Planning to head out from Lewis point. Is there a certain depth I should target for perch and walleye? When I’ve fished Oneida it’s seemed like I just get a mark once in a while.  Should I move around more and try to find a school?

Got out yesterday afternoon from 3:30-5:30. Wind was pretty brisk. Fished the same spot as Sunday. Didn’t mark as many fish but I ended up bringing 2 nice perch and 2 eyes home with me. Snow started cranking up as I headed in.

Got out this evening for last hour and a half before dark. Beautiful sunset tonight. Ended up catching 2 keeper eyes and a tank of a perch. Also tossed back one short eye. Enough for dinner this trip.

Got out this afternoon off Lewis Pt.  Easy walk with just a light dusting of snow.  Picked away at the walleye all afternoon.  They came in waves, always chased and most often hit my jig.  Most were shorts but got 3 keepers and a few others that were legal.  The perch were there, seldom chased and never strayed far from bottom.  My only perch chased and crushed a No 7 jigging rap.  Biggest Waldo at 20" sucked in a small perch jig.  Had my 3 so still swimming.  Ice was 14 -16" everywhere I drilled.  Wish this lake was closer to home!

Nice work 2much! Heading to the lake tomorrow and will probably head off south shore somewhere for some shelter from high winds that are forecast the next couple days.

Hey quick question here. Wife and I fished Oneida last year and only managed 4 perch on 4 trips. Mainly used tip-ups and jigged to kill the time. Also visited 3 different entrance points. Do you basically stay in one spot and jig or move after a certain amount of time if the schools don't come to you? If you stay in stay in one place for the duration, do you put tip-ups in. Thanks for any help............

I know people run tipups but not many do on oneida, just mainly jig.  do you have electronics? that makes all the difference. If we are not catching its time to move.

the vexlar is your friend  .... your new my suggestion get close to  groups   ...  tip ups are more work then they are worth  .concentrate on jigging ...i work  at perch and walleyes are  accidental  catches ......have  fun stay  save i'm getting in the truck right now

Using the navionics app will help get you close to the breaks you're looking for.  Then its drill a couple holes to see where you're at.  Move till you find some marks.  Repeat as needed.

Fished on Sunday near 109 and had a hell of a time with ice chunks underneath the main sheet. Almost like a detached layer of ice that was stuck down there.. Never experienced that before but what a pain!!

2 short walleye and dropped another close to the hole. Was tough to move around because of how annoying it was to get the hole cleared out. That’s probly a wrap for me on Oneida this year

My faith has been restored!!  Out near 109 and the 4 wheeler quit. No spark. Great guy towed me back to Verona. It was dark out by then and he was willing to help.  Thanks for the help!

No keepers-ice at 23”-marked many but couldn’t make the bite.
