Had better first days.  Lots of lookers.  A couple players.  Good to be on oneida before Xmas.  Spud Spud Spud.  You don't feel safe don't go.  I'm not giving reports it's boderline and if you don't know what your doing or uncomfortable stay off.

She sure is purty when she’s all locked up. A shame we’re getting this warmup but it’s still early.

Walked on Oneida main lake this morning. Ice was solid early but not a lot of it. Fishing wasn’t very good. Lot of lookers very very few takers. With this afternoons warmth I would not recommend going out until another cool down

My bud MV did a good deed and gave a spud to a couple of teenagers wandering out  on the ice to go fishing,Didn’t never heard of 1 ,  they give boat courses and maybe a general ice safety class wouldn’t be a bad thing , , I know we survived , no seat belts , no bicycle helmets, and focus 5 heaters , to name a few 😉

It is a miracle we survived! Riding in the back of pickup trucks, standing, sitting on the box edge.... :o

Managed 12 gills and a couple of crappie Friday afternoon with a screaming high barometer. Went back to my small skinny water again Sunday mid day and pulled another 14 gills out. Had some nice LMB and dink perch come in camera view, I would bury my jig in the muck to keep it away from them. Fun stuff, but would prefer to get the perch waters. It's a start!

Got some pics for you Fillet, if I can figure out how to post with phone.

I've been fishing the hardwater for over 50 years now and safe ice to one is deadly to another. On these big lakes if you know the terrain and how it does lock up you might be OK on some rather thin ice. IMO no fish is worth a cold water dunk and I blame no one for refusing to give any real ice reports until it gets over a foot thick. I was on a pond down here on Saturday and there were guys fishing but 3 inches just does not get it for me and a few spots were absolutely off limits. If my weight on the slab can cause the water in the hole to raise up then I have no business being there is the way I roll and stay safe. It is great to get out before Christmas but usually down here a better bet is after 1/15 unless you have small farm ponds in your area. The guys with the permanent shanties are your best guide for knowing if the ice is safe enough because most of them know their own lakes and conditions.

If I agreed with you we would both be wrong!
