Nice Gills
« on: Feb 05, 2008, 02:14 PM »
If i am catching a bunch of small gills will there be bigger gills in the area or in the same school of fish?  Or do the small gills school up with other small gills and bigger gills school up with bigger gills? :-\

Normally they school together.  If you start catching 2-3 inch gills I would move around a little to see if you can locate some bigger fish.  I have seen on occasion that the big boys will hang on the bottom underneath the small ones, but that doesn't happen very often.

it really depends on where you are, sometimes the small gills will stay separate and other times they're all together.

I have the same problem. The small ones hit it like 3 feet below the hole (small jig, sinks slow) and it dosnt have enough time to get to the bottom. I have caught some really nice crappies 1 or 2 feet below the ice before though.

Up here it seems the bigger gills are on the bottom of the school, or the top...depends on the size of the school, the lake, and the day...
