Deadstick rod holder?
« on: Dec 02, 2020, 12:04 PM »
I’ve been just laying my rods on the ice for years, but (since you can never have too much fishing junk) I’m now looking for a rod holder. Looking for something that packs-up small. So, what rod holder do you use when fishing outside?

Any experience with this Lakco Folding Ice Fishing Rod Holder?

Primarily on a bucket, but sometimes on a chair. I guess that I should have included that I’m looking for something free standing.

cheapest and easiest is usually a bucket

This is a great option too - if you don't want to setup the rod with the tip up flag, the rod holder part of the fooler is awesome

These work well

These are nice

These are probably the cheapest, best bang for the buck as they work very well

I am toying with adding a clamp on rod hold that will tip down linked below ..placing it on my hole hopping bucket ..I have several snap on/slide on bucket rod holders now ..but none seem to fit the bill and dont tip down ..they seem to be utilized mostly for transport or storage as a hole hop ...my Vexilar has rod holders that I utilize all the time .

I don't like anything that sits on the ice and takes up more room in the portable. Because I always have a bucket (hopefully with fish in it) I use this. Works for me and I don't have to bend over to get the rod in and out (too old and lazy for that). My dead stick always has a venom float and open bail so no need for it to tip down for me.

Used a bunch of different rod holders but in the end, the milk crate box or smaller bucket is still the best rod holder there is.  ;D  All I do is lift up rod and hook set is complete in one motion.   Tripod stool worked pretty good as a rod holder too.  I had once attached something to my boot to use as a rod holder.   Ah nothing like the boot just jigging the rod and a kick of the leg puts the hook set in...LOL.

I have ones like cwavs showed the pic of. On my shanty I have mounted a half a door hinge on each end that I can slide one of the wire pig tail ones you get at Walmart for like $2. Sometimes I just use a Jaw Jacker as a rod holder.

I've got one of these, and love how it keeps the rod off the ice. However, when a fish hits, its a cluster ****, as sometimes I can get the rod out in time, other times I have to grab the whole thing, and who knows what will happen ;-)

I like these for a chair or a bucket. I have attached it to one of the poles in the shack as well. More expensive then others but big fan.

Yep - happened to me at times.  I think it depends on what rod handle you put in there.   I like that they are small and don't take up much room in the bucket.  If I get a rod that sticks in there a little, I just grab the whole setup and waken the minnow.

I use these, they fold flat.  just make sure your line is on top of forward rest otherwise it may catch when you lift the rod.

Then there are these. They used to be made of wood years ago...like the ones I made myself. A little pricey...

On those rare occasions that I'm icing lots of crappies and my fishing buddy isn't: when packing up to go home I say, "Could you help me with this bucket of crappies--it's too heavy for me to lift alone."

They are made by Catch Cover, make sure you get the one with the c-clamp and not with the wall disc. You can find them at FishUSA (https://www.fishusa.com/Catch-Cover-Multi-Flex-Rod-Holders)

I am in Canada and ordered mine from Pockey’s in Sask.
