Hali/Pilke Rod of Choice?
« on: Dec 30, 2008, 09:15 PM »
I'm going to try some Hali and Pilke jigs this winter, but am unsure I have a rod that will do the job.  What do you guys recommend in terms of action and length- line weight too for that matter.  Most of my current rods have very sensitive tips as I fish a lot of crappies and bluegills, will these work or do I have to go with something a little stiffer?

They will work, I would just give them a try.  I use a stiffer rod to take some of the bounce out as they are a fairly heavy lure.  I would guess you will go this route after trying them.

I used them on a medium action rod and liked it, but my buddy used them on an ultra light "perch" specific rod (short, super sensitive) and did great. He could even feel the crappie bite.

I think you could use them on a willow stick and be fine.
