got out today for the first time this season , first ice and had an awesome day fishing comet pond , I got to the beach late around 11:15 AM 4.5 inches of ice, there was a guy there already set up in the usual spot i fish so i fished the left side of the beach was all set up by 11:45 first flag was at noon time landed a 17 inch brown 4 ft of water below the ice rosie shiner down 2 feet , 2nd brown a 13 incher came at 12:57 8 ft water rosie shiner down 3 ft , and the 3 rd brown a 15 incher came at 1:08 at my farthest tilt out 20 plus ft of water rosie shiner 8 ft under ice , all in all great first day out on the ice and a 3 comet pond brown limit for my effort of lugging the gear up backbreaker hill

Nice going ! I would have killed to get out today during this nice weather. I haven’t gotten around to trying comet yet myself.

what's the big deal ? plenty of fish in comet for all to catch , its no big secret that the place is loaded with trout , it normally gets alot of pressure throughout the icefishing season and i still catch trout at the end of the season after all the pressure

First of all a lot of folks know about Comet and have fished it for years. If someone wants to share info about their trip, thats their decision.

Pretty good day took me three years to finally get a trout out of that place on the ice. Freshwater I have no problem don’t target trout much on the ice though. Was label to get out around Worcester today with my son

comet is my favorite pond to fish through the ice , and i dont mind at all sharing my catches with peeps on here and info on how and where i catch them , if my sharing helps another fisherman catch fish , then it makes me feel good , plenty fish for all who seek them

Agreed. It ain’t a secret honeyhole. I’ve been open water before , not easy to fish. Glad you were successful.

Their are some non contributors who just look for were the ice is or for a report on the catch. Call there buddy's next thing you know. its a cluster .!%$ on the pond. genral information on an area is best.

Nice work and report. Especially like knowing that they were hitting at different depths. I'm admittedly not a great trout fisherman through the ice. Good to know it helps to vary depths sometimes.

@Eastciderida, where did find ice in Worcester?

I drive past Indian Lake everyday and that's not even locked up completely and was at Wachusett earlier today and no ice!

I only target trout through the ice and open water , i dont fish for bass or pike or perch or crappie anymore so i usually do well at the trout ponds that i fish , Mattawa , Comet , South pond , this was my first outing this season , south pond isnt even close to being safe yet still alot of open water all over and i have yet to visit Mattawa , maybe sometime next week will keep ya posted

comet is better now that the salmon stocking stopped. i remember numerous fist fights regarding setting up to close. nothing worse than loosing one because you get tangled in 4 other lines..i caught a salmon 18 years ago. within 10 minutes 2 guys drilled holes within 5 feet of mine. i may give it a try some weekday..
