Tip up storage in Jet Sled
« on: Feb 23, 2021, 05:49 PM »
Looking to get my tip ups off the bottom of my Jet Sled. I run 7 Heritage Laker tip ups here in NY and am looking for ideas to keep them secure in my sled. I've tried a 5 gallon bucket but it's just to tippy. Any other suggestions?

I use a ht bag, I think it's made for jigging rods but I have about 10 tipups in there. Why not try a boat bag? It's waterproof.

Some folks use a milk crate with PVC pipe .

I don't know about the PVC pipe but milk crates work good not so top heavy as a bucket and you can get your tip ups, a jig rod or two and a scoop in one if you pack it careful.
When the going gets weird the weird turn pro.

I've saw somewhere someone used pieces of gutter and caps connected - one for each trap and made a carrying case that was pretty good.

I tried the milk crate and plastic gutters.  Heritage Lakers are too tall. You'd have to bolt the crate to the bottom of the sled.

I still go with 5 tipups, lets me have a jigging rod and a dead stick. The Cabelas Rod Bag carries everything I need and keeps it well organized.

Rod bag looks good.  I had a buddy that said he could increase the sales of Cabela's by 20% in just a few weeks.   I asked, "how?".  He said, "I Would take that big yellow Cabela's name off of everything they sell.....
Hmmmmm………..think he might have been correct.

If you are going to buy a rod bag, I'd suggest this one over the Cabelas bag.  I had the Cabelas bag and had issues with the zippers falling apart.  I bought this one from Amazon and the zippers are much heavier duty and it is a perfect bag for all my tip up gear.  I have at least 10 in there, as well as all the tackle and tools I would need for tip up fishing.

I also have a Cabela's bag that I use for my tipups. I can fit 5 standard Polar tipups and a windlass, plus all my tackle. So far so good.

I use a largish plastic tote container.  It houses all my tipups, spare tackle, extra clothes, snacks, etc.

When I get home, I only have to pick up a single item and bring it into the house to dry off.  The jet sled stays in the car.

Fish go into a plastic bucket that doubles as my seat and bait bucket.
