I drove down to the lake this morning. There is no possible way guys were out yesterday. Apologize for that report. My source may have been stoned to the bejesus. Lol

Talked to a bud he had a buddy that made out about a mile or so yeaterday spuding and checking said ice was any where fron 2 inches to 8 inches most of the 2 were by the pressure cracks he said. He was thinking this weekend he may get out

The foundational ice is good 7 to 8inches but there is a giant crack that goes down the lake and opens up in an east wind, closes on a west wind. I suspect there will be guys checking again with 2 days of west wind coming. There still is open water in the middle. Every east wind resets the crack and with warm temps coming its most likely a lost cause.

The checking has already begun! It's looking good just got this warm spell and snow to get thru and game on for me this weekend if everything goes good.

They are already running machines and putting eyes on the ice in Ohio.

I live at Lake Erie Beach/ Point breeze and it was open water. Wind changes and ice comes in but not safe at all. Maybe a hovercraft for ice fishing. Kinda always wanted to try that.

Walked out last weekend Hamburg had 6” and didn’t see any open water. I did not fish

Latest satellite photo shows all the ice blown back to our shore. However the total size of the sheet is about half of what it was so that means lots of shoves. It looks like the ice extends about 2 miles off shore with 7-10 miles of open water from there to Canada. Hopefully more ice forms this week between here and Canada to stabilize things. The first brave souls that venture out will have a job of work chiseling paths through the shoves.
