Good looking rainbow,Mow. Think I saw you working the ice yesterday. Nothing for me. Couple in the camera and two bumps at the end of day. Trying again today. Hoping visabilty is better, a lot of silt drifting making viewing real cloudy.

Slow day today...
A few on cam (some seemed to be off bottom, swimming higher) but a couple were on the bottom.
No interest in chum or jigs...no egg eaters close to shore either.
Called it around 1 o'clock as I having wind flags on my laker set.
Heritage Laker traps seem to be loosening up some and not holding the flag in place...working on them now.
Saw Jiggin hauling his houses out to greener pastures...with the colder weather, might do the same next week.
Time to expand horizons if there's good ice.

Bounced both houses out to greener pastures :) Having some family members fishing with us this weekend.

It was Windy! Had some gust up to 36mph. Temps were warm 36f but with the windy chill it was cold 23f. Wind kept holes from freezing, creating waves pushing water onto the ice. Needed creepers today, imaging tomorrow too.

Fished for a bit, got nothing but did see 3 lakers with no interest swim by. For me, typically when it is windy, the fish don't seem to bite as well. The windier the worse the fishing is so it seems.

Tomorrow is suppose to be up to 20+ mph winds according to the forecast. You can usually add a few more mph to that on the lake. Good day to fish inside.

Any updates on Wellington access.

Stopped by there yesterday to have a look-see after fishing the morning at Cummings...ice is "building" slowly but no one has gotten on from there as far as I can tell.
I think, after some cold this week things should start to set up there but I'm afraid it's still not safe as there is water at the shoreline and really, sketchy looking ice a little farther out with open water beyond. A week of colder weather would do wonders.
Idiot, rock chuckers, last week helped to damage the early ice there...not sure if that was cleaned up or the rocks just melted through...Given time it should be okay.

Don't take this as an official report and always check with a chisel as you go out onto any ice!

Got to the lake early to get things set up for CH and her Brother Rocky to fish today.

As soon as i got lines down and the fish finder & camera set up there were lakers waiting for me. I lost 2 trying to hurry up and get them before CH came out. I need to get caught up to her.

It was fun watching Rocky get into it. First time fishing on Newfound where we did and constant lakers on the camera all day in groups of 3. CH yanked up 4 today and now has double digits, she lost a few and received punches for her effort...I got 2 lakers and punched once and still behind. Rocky missed 2 and received punches accordingly.  ;D
I think Rocky was amazed at how many Lakers were seen today. Laker Taker had 8 under his house at one time today he said until Scoffie showed up.

I think Laker Taker ended the day with 5 lakers, Butterfly got a beauty @ 23", Psycho got a nice one, Scruffy and Meme both got on the board, Troutfreak got 3 and Scoffie got 1. Troutfreak called it right this morning and said it was going to be a 6 fish day which i guess means a productive day.

Had plenty of visitors today. Great to see "not so BIG JIM", Altonbayfishingfool and others.

See what tomorrow brings.....

Were you hurrying up to catch up or to avoid getting punched by loosing them before she got there...  ;D

Sounds like a great day on the lake just the same... congrats on a six fish day!

1/29/2017

1/2 day for CH and I today. Got up early and got to the lake so we could get a park near the entrance as we had to leave early today. Didn't want to get blocked in.

Normally CH comes out around 8 am so that gives me plenty of time to get the house set up, have some coffee, get a line in and relax a bit before going to get her (really just gives me an advantage to get caught up). This morning she helped out never realizing how much stuff i do to get it ready as i don't leave anything in the house of value, it all goes home at the end of the day.

Nice morning, low winds and not too cold out 28F. As soon as we got set up we starting marking fish on the Lawrence. Everyone seemed to be getting em except me. CH managed to yank up 2 and lost 1 and is exceeding her double digits. Scruffy was the first on the board until Laker Taker got there. Last I knew Tippin and Laker Taker were having a fish off at 4 each and I'm still trying to get caught up to CH. Looks like i'll be taking a few days off to even the score.

Today they came in again in 3's and were very aggressive. Wish we could of stayed longer today.

Great weekend!

Would love to post some pictures but photobucket is not working very well.

some of CH's lakers from this weekend. Note that all were caught on lures purchased at AJ's Bait and Tackle. CH was trying to show them off in the pictures giving up her secret weapons. :)

How do you think ice will be for derby? Weather forecast looks good. Cousin invited me up to his place, fishing derby for 1st time, pretty excited! Just wondering if it should be good to go for ATV. Thanks

We should be good to go this season for the derby which is slated to take place Feb 25 & 26. It is starting to finally get cold around here with nights getting down to the single digits and days only up to 30f for this week. About time!!!!

Always best to check the ice yourself but the southern part of the lake is good for ATV's.

Good luck!
