I think there is already a topic on this, But I cant find it, so lets see what your tackle box looks like. Here's mine. Its just a small assortment of my favorite go-to panfish jigs. Nothing fancy, Just my favorite jigs(http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a20/Cody305/myshanty003.jpg)

I don't have any pics of mine nor do many people get to see inside of it! I can tell you that it will be home to over 250 bucktail jigs!

-
RL when you say "secret weapon" you mean beer in that cooler right :o ;)
-
RL, you've got the addiction big time. How,s that old saying go-so many lures so little time. Great problem to have.Looks like you're ready for anything.
-
man RL i thought i had alot and i only own prolly 100.very nice selection you got there.
-
RL when you say "secret weapon" you mean beer in that cooler right :o ;)
No Crusher, no beer in there. Hardly drink when I ice fish except at events. Too into the zone, just cannot take my eyes off the line, cam, vex or hands off the rod! That cooler has the jigs that I consider secret weapons for around here. The sets of jigs I would have to kill ya if ya seen type. Many that I tie up. If you find a weapon on our local lakes, it can produce for years till everyone uses it and the fish become conditioned for it.
Got tired of being on the ice, but lacking the needed color, style or size of jig for that location. Or buying something I think will work, it does, go back and it is out of stock forever. So now if I think a bait will work I buy 10-12 just in case!
With our County having over 450 lakes to fish, you never know what ya need! ;)
Plus having a wife that ice fishes constantly, she finds jigs all the time she thinks will work so we gotta buy em!
-
RL, I like the case you are using in the first pictures, What brand is that?
-
The side of the case says Flambeau
-
The side of the case says Flambeau
I was asking RL, not panfish popper
-
I would like to thank RL from the bottom of my heart. :'( My wife no longer thinks the amount of jigs I have is excessive, and can see why I would need or want more. ;)

RL, I like the case you are using in the first pictures, What brand is that?
Oyler,
That is a "White River" Fly Shop box. I get them at Bass Pro-Shop. Very inexpensive, float and hold a ton of baits. I have quite a few for flies as well. With jigs in them I normally add a stiff rubber band or two around them to ensure they do not pop open if I drop them.

Bart,
Your very organized and even more prepared! Love to see that. You hace nuts and bolts, duct tape etc... great deal and a lack of any of those items can be a show stopper! I add an extra spark plug, emery cloth, auger blade screws etc. when I am in places more than a few hundy yards from shore and a few miles from home. Many ice fishermen can learn from your prepared lead! Job well done and thanks for sharing man.

RL hats off to ya my wife doesnt know how much i have and wouldnt understand just wish i could convince her to ice fish than we could buy together cause oh lord she does like to shop
-
Holly Molly - Wagner. I thought I was bad. You got me hands down. No need for me to post a picture of mine, cause I can't compete with that. Congradulations that's a fishing arsenal.

:o Dang Wagner, the topic is tackle box not tackle store! Wow man! You would make a
great fishing buddy! Hey man do you have this color? Why yes I think I do! Fish on brother!

uffda uffda uffda.. Now that an arsenal RL, puts me to shame. Very nice collection ya got there. My wife hates ice fishing, I think that's a good thing sometimes, ;D but my kids love it.. I know the feeling when you find a jig that works and ya cant find it any more. I started doing the same thing but not quite as well as you ;), very impressive. Keep up the good work, ya never can have to much fishing stuff EVER. No such thing. ;D ;D
-
RL, your tackle supply is awesome :woot: I have a plastic Plano box with a bunch of jigs thrown in there. I need to get my gear in proper order, thanx for the pix.

Are those the shiver minnows made by mooonshine lures in the 4th pic? If so how do you like them?
-
Yeah, those are the moonshine shiver minnows. I purchased them last winter and only made it out on the ice for four days in mid-March, due to being out of the country. I didn't have any luck with them, but I was on Devils Lake and fishing was slow. I will miss most of this winter being out of country again, but I hope to have a break out year with them in 2012

I got the medium one and I love it. Holds a ton of jigs, wouldn't recommend that size for spoons though.

how about the jig boxes with the clips to hold the jigs... pros and cons anyone??? im thinking i want some but i dont want to be mad about something everyone but me knows is wrong with them
-

the new flambue boxes have the clips in them so do the Clam boxes. There are a few others out there as well that do....so far I have heard very few people complain about them. I like the fact that they keep jigs separated and easy to grab rather than digging through a compartmented style box running the risk of a hook biting into a finger or getting all messed up.
-
how many jigs can they hold do you know? when you close the sides do they rub together?
-

I am not sure, they guys that have them can probably tell you. I didn't know that boxes like that were even out there till I saw them this spring and I haven't been home since so I haven't bought any yet but will definitely be picking up a few next year.
-
I am so glad i read this thread. After filling up 2 boxes this winter i was afraid that i had gone a little overboard (as i always do with any aspect of fishing gear.) Seeing a bunch of guys stuff here has made me realize that ive only just begun......

the salmo's, slabs and swiming baits are still in the boat but this pretty much cover em all.

Ryno -
Thanks a lot. Now I cry when I look at what little I have. Good ammunition though when my wife says I have too much.
Scrolling down and seeing all your jigs pass by was like driving past a bunch of houses in a row where they have gone all out with the Christmas lights. "Ooooo aahhh - look at all the pretty colors". Very impresive.

Ryno, I believe your "the Man" with the most jigs! Very Impressive!!! ;D

Ryno, I believe your "the Man" with the most jigs! Very Impressive!!! ;D
yep you're the man....with the most jigs... im thoroughly impressed ::)
-
everyone has a nice selection of jigs and im sure they all work with the right presentation but personally i feel there is only a need for a select few jigs. 1. would have to be the frostie glow on overcast days. i have caught everything on them, from panfish to trout. 2. would have to be very small teardrop in the same glow color or gold on bird blue skies or during a cold front. 3. would be a jigging rapala or puppet minnow which most people have, this is an awesome jig for deepwater jigging for perch and eyes. Once in a while when im feeling saucie ill throw on a swedish pimple in a darker color. i just feel it is unpractical to use 100 plus jigs in a seasonbut then again in new jersey our season is at best 2 months, only allowing me to get out about 15 to 20 times a year.

everyone has a nice selection of jigs and im sure they all work with the right presentation but personally i feel there is only a need for a select few jigs. 1. would have to be the frostie glow on overcast days. i have caught everything on them, from panfish to trout. 2. would have to be very small teardrop in the same glow color or gold on bird blue skies or during a cold front. 3. would be a jigging rapala or puppet minnow which most people have, this is an awesome jig for deepwater jigging for perch and eyes. COULDNT AGREE MORE a couple selections of few different styles of jigs and youll find something that works...when you carry a full size tackle box busting at the seams with every ice jig on the market....AND THEY ALL LOOK BRAND NEW! you need therapy...i dont know about you guys but when i have a jig thats hot it is beat up chipped scraped mangled bent faded etc...not shiny and brand new sittin there next to the 30 other brothers it has hahahahahahahgahgaha

i smell jealousy ;D ;D ;D haha j/k but we all know we like so see whats out there.. and i have been fishing right next to my buddy in the shack and both deadsticking a tear drop, mine was lime green and his was red and he was catching more then me, switched to a red and started nailing em, and we were deadsticking so i know it wasn't presentation or depth.. proof that i was glad to have a wide variety of colors of the same jig and many diff jig styles

Bart or anyone who's in the know, Whats that rig that you have your extra leaders rolled onto. That would work great for my trips to lake champlain. Wakefieldfisher

nobody saying a variety isnt important but having a variety AAAANNNNDDD 20? 30? of each? that is straight up buying addiction...there is no way youll convince me its key to have as many jigs as ive seen in some of these pics...but i guess with the economy down then stimulate as you must...ill catch my limit with 8 dollars worth ;D
-
jeffro, i agree... 20 or 30 of one jig is pointless... but having 20 or 30 styles of jigs is just being prepared... sucks having your buddy fishing next to ya and catching slabs and you dont have the lure to match him... but i do agree, some of these guys have so many jigs they couldn't tie them all on and fish them all in one day if they tried

thats all im trying to say...variety is a good thing...im not knocking having a couple of a bunch of different jigs or pimples or whatever but i saw a few boxes here that had a whole box of nothing but pimples 20? 30? maybe more? and like 100 marmooskas all in green glow? both work and can work well tried and true to the core....but cmon how many do you need? i lose maybe 3-4 jigs all season and thats even pushin it...a good truck will get you to the lake will 20 get you there better?

I like to have 8 or 10 of my favorites with me. There is nothing better than being able to hand one over to your buddy and say "here, try this...."
I like seeing how people organize their stuff. One guy I fished with just had everything thrown into the bottom of his sled, Can't figure out how he found anything. I see a lot of fly boxes being used for the smaller jigs. That's a great idea, if you do happen to drop it on the ice, you won't have everything fall out. No matter how hard I try, something always happens.
My first tackle bag is getting a little jammed, going to have to find the next largest size. I am going to organize my boxes before I post photos. Can't be shown up on the board. :)

Ill be the first to admit that i have an ice jig desease. I dont buy more 5 of any one jig but i will buy that jig in every color and size. When Im chasing bull bluegills they can be very finicky and the slightest change in size, color or profile makes a huge difference. Now, alot of those jigs i bought years ago and just dont get used much any more as new jigs hit the market...however some of those oldies are still some of my go-to jigs. I cant get enough tungsten jigs...just love how they fish heavy as i exclusively tightline one rod. And yes...i guard my tackle bag with my life and i can assure you it will never be left behind on the ice or for that matter not under lock and key in my truck ;D
-
see? were making progress! admitting theres a problem is the 1st step :woot:...and that is a brilliant idea take what you need for the day and dont risk losing your retirement nest egg out on the ice with ya....and once again i agree tungsten is gooooooooood ;D

Looks like I have room for a few more! Any suggestions on what I am missing? I want to target more walleye this season, so I know I have some room for that.

Hi from kansas i'm new to this site just wanted to see what you ice fishing junkies are talking about.
And from the looks of those boxes i need to go shopping and hope to learn more because you are never to old to learn.

So who is the winner?

So who is the winner?
I think jeffro9023 is. He seems to be a retired guy with a big fat 401K and not too many jigs, sittin back on the ice laughing at everyone else because they are doing everything wrong in his estimation. :icefish:

Hey! You guys should see all my beer cans!!!!!! *BURP* :roflmao:
-
how do you guys change jigs on ice? do you retie them everytime you want to change a jig? when its cold and windy, retying jigs on ice is not the most pleasant thing to do.
are there some quick snaps/swivels?

as new jigs hit the market...however some of those oldies are still some of my go-to jigs.
Northland quit making the solid orange Forage Fry Minnow last year, which was my go to jig...I see you have a few. Got REALLY lucky at the St. Paul Ice Show Friday (That's why I always go on the first day..if ya don't get it, it's gone) talking to the Northland guy about that..he steered me across the aisle to a guy selling Northland close-outs and no-longer-produced-jigs. Guess what I found? He had 3 left...now nestled in my jig box.

I retie....the swivels really seems to fudge the action on the tiny jigs, and when the fish are really finicky, even the black tiny swivels seem to bug 'em.

I bought some Ratsos, Moxie minnows and that type of thing since my son was at a store where they were on sale in Bismarck. I thought I would save them for retirement but my son told me that it is ok to use them since I am already retired and don't have to worry about my 401K anymore. Gee, what a great feeling.

I use No-Knot Snaps. Pop one lure off and pop a different one on. Careful though, if ya buy some ya might not get to retire until yer ninety. HAHAHA :woot:

what size is good for panfish jigs size 10, 12?
I use mostly size 10 for panfish, but at times size 12 is better. It kind of depends on the type of jig and the mood of the fish.
-
The no knot snaps work well for vertical lures with larger eyes. Horizontal lures need to be tied direct to line keep them horizontal.

Whew ... I thought I had a major addiction. Most of you have me beat! Here's a few of mine ...

By the way, the no-knot snaps are awsome for spoons!
