I was out on north pond this weekend. Probably around 4" to 5" of ice. Bite was very slow.

It sounds like the pond is finally making some ice . These next couple of days should be really good for it. Can't wait to get out!!

Welcome to the shanty.
You need 3 posts to get to the reports and conditions board.
There are a few current posts on sandy pond there.

Well, there are a lot of sandy ponds all across the ice belt.  Because you have no location in your profile, it would be hard to know which sandy pond you are referring to.
take care,

I was in town Saturday and Sunday to work on the new camp. Saw a few braver than I out hanging some lines off Seber Shores, not many though.  Looking forward to getting out although I am afraid that time on the ice will be split with working on the interior of camp.  JBog give a hollar when you are ready to make the move to the ice, if I am in town I will give you a hand.

On another note, how about those Orangemen?  Tommyboy I know you're watching.  What a rollercoaster. Unbelievable!  ::)

yeah that was another cardiac moment last night!  Got custody of my daughter finally, now she is addicted to watching the orangeman play and ice fishing...
On another note stopped by the elms last night on the way home from work, about three people fishing.  Looks like the owner of the elms is getting a little fed up with people parking and not paying, he has a few signs up talking about towing your stuff if you don't pay. It would suck to loose this spot for a few turds out there. Last year I caught someone not paying because they said they didnt have cash.  I told them about the bar up the rode that has an ATM, but they didnt seem to give a crap and went out on the ice anyway. I dropped an extra 5 in for them. thought about flattning a tire for my trouble. I know its none of us that dont pay, but I would suggest to those who fish off the elms to keep your eyes peeled for deadbeats and call them on it before we loose that parking area....
Jboggey is out on the pond right now, so we should get a good report of ice thickness and all that.

Good call Tommyboy, it only takes a few to ruin it for the rest, and that seems to be the trend. We ran into the same scenario at the Elms last winter only the guy I spoke with said all he had was a $20 bill.  I told him that was perfect, he's paid for 4 days, NOT.  He just went on his way. >:(  I hope his sled tipped over in the snomobile ruts and stuff scattered and then the seagulls came and stole all his minnows.  ;D  Has anyone heard what  plans Steve has for the Wigwam parking lot?  It will certainly be nice to have that open again for the winter, as well as the corners. I hope it works out for the both of them.
Stay safe!!

I stopped by there after work, its all plowed out and ready to go by the looks of it.  They opened a body shop in the biulding where you pay to park.  Asked a couple guys coming off the ice how it went, they had fished gp most of the day with no luck, and no luck out in from of the wigwam.  Said there was a good five inches of ice everywhere they had been.  Saw boggey way out there. I was going to grab a beer and wait for him to come off the ice, but the wigwam was already closed.

With this last bit of sub zero temps there has to decent ice now. I'm going to venture out from the elms on saturday and will
definitely drop my $5.00 bucks in . Its well worth it.

Venture maybe, decent? Maybe not.
Doable sure perhaps with caution, 5" is OK.

What's not OK is making the assumption because of low temps ice must be good.  After 5+' of snow has been dumped on an area ice isn't made well despite temps.

Proceed with caution, check as you go, pay attention.  There's a reason guys hit 30 fow on Oneida before the pond has become a zoo. That doesn't happen often.

Check reports, stop and buy bait at reputable bait shop & ask about local conditions, most importantly check yourself

old bcons  has a point  with that much snow  the pond is  insulated   5 inches is fishable  but I would use caution ....

fished the Elms this morning,ice was 5-8 inches,with 2-3 black,3-4 slush ice
started out in 15 fow drilled 5-6 holes, nothing, not even a blip on the Lowrance
moved around for a couple hrs, nothin,
very frustrating not to mention the hard pull out and back(1-3 inchs of snow on top)
tried minnows,spikes and waxies,
I don't know,maybe im not doin it right,lol

Bad luck fishing
But very good ice report
The other bad thing is I will be fishing that same spot this weekend
My quad is staying home so I'll be out there with my pull toys
