My old beaver dam with the solder on spools are made of quality parts.my newer bd jolly rodgers ive had the flag assemblies rust and the new spool with the set screw is a dumb idea because you have to unspool all the line to make sure its tight.the last straw is that im building custom bd style tipups and they changed the black skull and crossbones flag to a crappy looking skull,smaller flag and only printed on one side.lol going to have to make custom flags I guess.i can see black flags out on the ice better than any other color.

Always hate, hate, hated those soldered on spools simply because they were a colossal pain to re-lube. As far as your problem I'd say a drop of Loc-Tite, crank 'er down tight and don't worry about that part.

As far as that flag, just another case of shrinkflation in this era.

Im thinking they went with a soft loveable skull drawn by a kid to not offend or scare anyone.lol just a crappy design.i agree tho.less quality but more money these days..

Sad indeed.  I just turned 60 and have plenty of the old ones.  I guess that’s one perk of getting older…won’t have to buy any of the new junk.
