I own a frabil panfish popper, and it got a lot of use last season, as mentioned in other posts they are hard to thread while on the ice so make sure you have a back up, or be preparied to spend some time on them

A good tip on the popper rods while trying to feed the line through the spring is to double up your line before trying to thread it through the spring.  This way the line does not try and come out the side of the spring.
Bring on the ice!!!!!!!  <br />

i have two ul and beside the threading of line issue the only thing i don't like is the drag on the reel.  for panfish its fine but if you get hooked up with a big bass or pike the drag is jerky.  once the fish breaks the drag it is smooth but the initial pull is not.

I bought one of the frabrill popper rods too . The spring only made a couple of trips before I junked it because of the small hole etc . The rod itself is alright but I sure didn't care for the mickey mouse spring setup . What I did was add a flat steel spring bobber that has a larger eyelet and I became a happy camper . LOL ;D

I did the same.  Also, I took a circular file and hollowed out the plastic "eye" that the factory spring bobber attached to.  It iced up to easy.  Much better this way.
Let there be ice.

Good tip IceNutter, why didn't I think of that :o ::)

I agree the idea is good but the spring freezes up way too easy for me.   The St. Croix spring bobber on their Legend Ice Rod is the best design that I have seen yet and I have tried every one that I can get my hands on.

Just grabbed a 20" panfish popper, went with the smallest mostly just for Perch with micro jigs.
Price was right, $23 CDN.

I just got a St Croix Premier UL with a spring bobber on it. It seems to be a nice rod. I'm getting kind of anxious to try it. Who's keeping all the ice to himself?? ;)
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.

I love mine.  Threading the spring bobber hint:  use a needle.

I love my popper, as for freezing up I just put the spring in my mouth (probably not smart, but I don't care). I hope to get atleast one more for christmas, then I won't have to retie so much
