Anyone fish up in Salmon?
« on: Nov 24, 2014, 08:51 AM »
Heading up to Salmon Idaho around the 13th December time frame to coach my son's youth hockey team in a tournament.  I have never been there and know nothing about it.  So my questions are: Is there any good ice fishing up there?  Or should I try and fish the river for Salmon?  Are their guides up there?  What's the scoop?

Any information is much appreciated!

Thanks

I have never ice fished in that area, so I cannot answer your first question.

There won't be salmon in the river at that time, but there should be some steelhead holding in the area. If the river isn't frozen solid by that time, you may be able to try it out.  There are guides in the area but I don't know if they will be guiding in December due to inconsistent weather, and the probable ice buildup in the river.

there's a mountain lake chock full of trout nearby. i can't remember the name for the life of me, and i've never ice fished it, but i know it's deep and rocky. not a ton of size to the trout, but there's a lot of them. try black or orange.

Sounds like most lakes in Utah.  Does Williams lake ring a bell?

nope. i looked it up, Wallace Lake is the place you're looking for. you should be able to get in there if there's not too much snow.
