Nice Smitty sled!  My buddy had a shelter like that and we always hated pulling it out unless we had to.

is that an eskimo sting ray i see in your pic? and i wouldnt leave it resting like that youll leak all your gas out, i have to put mine on the other handle or lay it flat so that the gas cap is on top because my cap leaks and its brand new!

I have a stingray. It doesn't leak gas at all. I can rest it however. Maybe you need to get a new cap? I haven't had any issues with mine.

I'm not sure about those viper engines but I know alot of 2 cycle engines don't like having the fuel tanks above the carb. I always try to lay/store any of my 2 cycle engines carb up or even with fuel tank.

Way to think out side the sled... auger does not have to be In the jet sled....

So how did you decide on how wide the skis would be spaced?

Depends on your gear and how wide you want it. I made mine 46" wide. I have a homemade shanty in progress that is 44 x 72" so I wanted the sled wide enough to accommodate it when I finish it.

I am walking. One thing about these smitty sleds- the longer the rope the better they pull. I use about 18' so I am 9' in front of my sled, and put the rope over one shoulder and under the other so there is no hand /arm fatigue. I can walk a couple miles this way.

I used a brush cutter harness at first and then came to the conclusion that just a long bungee was a lot less trouble. On the back woods trails I switch between pulling up hills and kicking down.

BOSS - That is a real nice sled you made. It's hard to believe you get all that stuff in the sled.

I bet your wife wasn't real happy about loosing some of her lawn furniture for the frame.  ;D ;D ;D ;D

There is some great ideas for sleds on this post. I am thinking about making a new one in the off season. Right now I have a tote with a pair of skis on the bottom and a tow rope. It works OK, but I want something to keep stuff alittle more organized, and won't be as brittle in the cold.

After reading this entire thread, many times over again, I decided to design my own.

Skis
2x4
1/4" luan for bottom front, back and sides
1/2" plywood for top
pine for internal bracing
All coated with two (2) layers West Systems 105 on the outside for strength and varnish on the inside for a preservative.

Vintage Frabill Ice Shuttle with modifications
K-Drill with M18 Milwaukee Drill
Jack Traps rule the world of hardwater!
Marcum LX-7LI Lithium Combo Sonar System
ATG Custom Smelt Jigging Boards
ATG Custom Jigs
Arctic Armor Suit
Mr. Buddy
Shappell 3000
.....and no time.
