Cranberry lake tourney
« on: Jan 20, 2019, 09:00 PM »
Does anyone have any snow reports for cranberry lake? The derby is this Saturday and I’m worried we won’t be able to move with wheelers up there after this storm.

Heard 12-16". I will be checking the ice Wednesday. Probably not going to be good to conditions for ATV

Could someone post the weighin sites. I always fished out of Wanakeena and knew Joe Indian site but may fish out of State Park. It sounds like I will have to walk and will end up fishing closer to a weighin site or just show up for door prizes.

Just bumping for hope of someone local with a snow report or weigh in locations for the other guy.

Thank You. How far off the State Park launch is the site station if anyone knows. Thanks ahead of time.

There's usually a weigh station right off the state campground beach. I can confirm in a few days. Also weigh station 3 in the map is a little off, the weigh station is a little more Northeast....off what they call Twin Islands. Good picture tho.

Per the Cranberry Lake Fire Department:

Ok fisher people,

Ice = 13 inches
Slush = 1 inch
Snow = 10-12 inches

Judging from the looks of the reservoirs on the Raquette River between Potsdam and Piercefield, I'd guess that there is 10-12" of slush now. Going to be a sloppy mess that this guy is going to avoid! Good luck to those that go.

all local lakes have slushed to the top. So the foot of snow on the ice is now nothing but slush. It may harden over on top enough to walk on without popping through. but 4 wheelers and sleds will be rough go. Good luck to all who go.

And I would avoid the narrows out of Wanakena like the plague. The flows with this rain are wicked and they have already lost a sled through there already this year. Hate to see anybody on the wrong side of the ice. Stay safe!

Per CLFD:

Due to ice and weather conditions we are sorry to announce that we will NOT be weighing any fish tomorrow.  Hourly prizes, raffles and door prizes will be drawn at the fire hall at NOON.  We are sorry for any inconvenience but for the safety of all we feel this is best.

They are taking a lot of heat for the short notice and I know a lot of guys travel far but like I said in my post above I think the narrows and the river would have swallowed up a lot of atvs and utvs tomorrow. A lot of people get on the ice on the Wanakena end. Do feel sorry for the guys that have expenses invested but hopefully they understand the reasoning.
