I have a large 2 man that probably weighs 230# loaded. This year I built a smitty and wondered why I didn't years ago. WOW what a difference.
Just made one myself !
I like having my Smitty wider than the sled. I can strap or bungee extra stuff on the Smitty that I couldn't fit in the sled. Wider is nice and stable too but too wide is a bit more challenging to steer or even navigate through woods if you have too
Question to you who have made one, do you you have the cross beams stop at the inside of the hyfax, or do you go out to the edge of the shanty and just ratchet strap it on? I really would like to build one, just have some questions.I made mine wider to fit my shanty. I went 32” from middle of ski to middle of other ski. Thinking of making 2 more cross beams to go 48” to see how that works.
Do you want it to have the capability of being able to be broken down for storage or transport
Notching the 2x8 to accommodate the 2x4 will make it more sturdy. Then use a carriage bolt. There are many pictures out there. I don't happen to have a pic of mine.
