Gulp Alive 1" minnow
« on: Jan 23, 2018, 09:06 AM »
I used the Gulp Alive 1" minnow yesterday for the first time. To increase the action I split the tail above and had good results. Anyone one else try this and what did you use to split tail?  I used a single edge razor but looking for other ideas.  Thx

I like the 1" gulp minnows. Used them in open water for crappie and bluegill with good success. I bought 3 jars to use for ice fishing this year but only used 2 minnows. They are very durable. I didn't split the tail any more than they already were. The only thing I don't like about them is the sticky residue on my fingers. I'm very careful not to spill an open jar in my boat so it won't stain the carpet. But I usually have towel to wipe off the excess from my hands.

I haven’t used them yet, but I have a jar that I plan to use. I swear by the 2.5-3” ones for open water though for all species, my favorites are smelt and fire tiger. all my biggest gills have been caught on a 2.5” gulp minnows!

You could date an ex of mine. It would make that gulp beer the second worst thing you’ve ever tasted.

I know they work without splitting the tail but the finicky biters can't resist. I am only splitting about  1/4 inch...try it. ;)

Make sure to explain the odor of Gulp to your spouse before you go fishing, otherwise you may have some explaining to do when you get back.

Figure out another container after you open the jar I have never been able to stop the original jar from leaking. Agree with the answers. Never have split the tails more than they already are. Have caught gills, crappies, Bass, one cat fish. Only have used the one inchers.

I’ve had the same problem with the jars leaking. They are awful. What was your solution?

Leaking jars: Don't pull the seal under the lid all the way of. Just open it up far enough to get a piece of bait out. Not totally leakproof, but better than nothing. Baby food jars work, too.

I get these at the local REI store. No more problems with leakage.

No one has teflon tape in their junk drawers? If it'll seal a pipe, it'll keep the juice in the jar...

yep, I second that...nothing like going some place to eat and get a drink after fishing...and you smell like vagina :P  I think Teflon tape would be a pain in the  :pinch:  but no doubt they work, I have one jar with other company's plastics, now they work too

Teflon tape works on pipe, but you don't take the pipe apart 20 times a day.

Yep, don't toss the original seal material. I push the seal into the cap/top after opening and don't have any leaks.

Yep. Long time Gulp user and leaky jars (of any size) are a big gripe of mine. I even ponied up for the Plano aftermarket storage. Big disappointment, no better. I went online and found some silicone o-rings to fit the big jars and never looked back.

Stinky stuff? Phew! Worse than a V-bomb? I don't think so...
