Could I ask for some general advice all.  I went to Honeye last year for 1st time there on the hard water.  I went out of the state launch with a game plan in mind only to see that everyone was spread out parallel and along the west shore -had not been my plan to drag all the way across.

So, just wondering if heading straight out from state ramp and sticking between shore and let's say midway across is an OK idea for encountering some gills or is there some magic to that western shore?

Any general advice welcome.

Thanks

They call it fishing, not catching, there are fish everywhere in not only that lake but every lake but some patterns change.  Here one day gone the next.  You have a good chance no matter the location ;)

Depth and vegetation make all the difference.  Find the right depth with weeds and your likely to find fish.  There is just a lot more of that type of habitat on the west side, however, the east side coves can produce too.
There is a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid!

That was me on the cam today. Fished all over south end and towards middle of lake. Deepest I made it was 25 ft. Spudded my way every where. Ice is solid, nothing less than 3 inches. Not saying it's safe but I felt comfortable.  Didnt find the motherload yet, I'll be back out on the main basin first thing tomorrow. Few others out on the gill grounds just not my cup of tea. Good luck be safe!!
was that you next to me when I was in my blue clam over on the west side with nobody else?? I too spudded everywhere. huge pressure crack opened up late afternoon and i literally felt my hut move . LMBaggins and I looked at each other and started laughing. bite was tough saw lots of fish but most wouldn't even come over and look. gonna get back after them tomorrow for a few hours then I have a wedding to go to

Whent yesterday for a few hours without even a nibble... camera died shortly after we arrived and the blizzard started while we were out... stayed until sun down and boy was that a white knuckle ride home!

Just walked off the lake 20 mins ago. We had some luck today after we broke away from the pack out of the south end. Made it to the trench and picked away some decent fish  with some bonus craps in the mix. Ice is great 4-7 inches all over the lake. Put some miles on today but it was well worth it! Let's hear some reports, there were only a hundred people out there  ;D

I certainly like to hear the reports of all the craps being caught all around the lake. We have seen a few anywhere from 6 ft to 22 ft of water.

The lake is smooth as it gets and there's about an inch of snow on the ice making the drag a breeze. I'm hardly "in shape" and I made it past the trench n back without any issues. Believe me u forget all about the walk when u drop that ducer in the hole and the screen is stacked.. Just sayin

2 of my bros brought home 32 keeper gills and pumpkinseeds and 1 crappie yesterday/ bunch of 9-9.5 inchers mixed in. That was ll in 3 hours. Little bro and oldest bro and I went out for 3 hours today and brought home 56 keeper gills pumpkinseeds and crappies. awesome time for my little bro as it was only his second time out. he loves watching the camera with me and seeing slob gills come up and inhale it!! in other news some guys pulled out from the parking lot and we noticed they had left their auger. i left it leaning against the bathroom area as I didn't want them to notice it was gone come back and it not be there.

With that bone spur, its gonna be a longer walk because it is a long walk to start with. Look at the map and you can see to hit that spot is just over half way back up the lake. The walk and pull are easy but, no one's gonna tell ya its a short one. Kinda like the pull out of 3rd Creek in Sodus to deep water in comparison........
