Kind of off topic, but was just curious as to what everyone's favorite beverage is while on the hard water. I personally am always out on the ice with a 30 pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon, but that's just me. And of course I am not encouraging drinking and driving. Just curious to know what everyone likes to sip on.

76 is too old to take that sort of risk. ;)2
Hot coffee is great, as is bouillon and a way to keep it hot or cold for a couple days is the Nissan Thermos wide mouth with the small "pop-up" vending spout. Enjoy your passion or poison. ;)2

Nothing wrong with a good bump on the ice if that's your thing.
It has been years since I took anything other than coffee along for the day.

If you have time to down a 30 pack, you ain't fishin'.

Lol plenty of fish caught with a 30 rack. Not just me drinking it usually a couple buddies as well.
-
I like Bud fat. Usually only have a couple while out there, but all my buddies kind of count on me having beer in my sled, so I usually do. Nobody gets drunk. I like to wait til we're within an hour or so of packing it in, then beer is good for a quick carbo-load for that long pull on foot back to the truck.

I'm not on the ice to drink. I can drink in the comfort of my home. I'm there to fish.

Well Mr. Trapster, glad there are two of us. ;)2

Make that three... And I'm sure lots more.
-
When it's real cold my wife packs a thermos of Hot chocolate.
Otherwise it is usually a powerade or some other kind of colddrink that has a little sugar to help keep me warm.
I don't drink Alcohol so we never have any around us.
Plenty of ice for the drinkers away from where I am at.To each his own though I am not telling you not to drink.
-

Four. Just coffee for me. The same goes for my usual fishing buddies.
-
nothing wrong with a few bratts cooking on the mr heater and few brewhas , when action slows down , kinda hard when bites hot ,,, BUD LT
-
I don't understand why some of you are making it seem like drinkin a few beers when fishing is a crime...no shame here beer is a beautiful thing.
-
I like PBR, but this year yeungling is available in CT. that may change.
-
Always bring water, sometimes coffee but my stanley thermos struggled last year to keep it hot. Occasionally like to enjoy a good, sweet fruity wine mostly thanks to a fishin buddy who makes it.
It seems like the larger the group we have on the ice the more each person drinks, there is usually at least 1 time in the season where it's more of a party on the ice than about the fishing. Tip-ups make this pretty easy as we stand around the grill or the cooler swapping stories and jokes while we wait to see the next flag fly.
Nothing wrong with enjoying some adult beverages on the ice as long as you stay respectful. No one wants to see the drunk cruising around in his truck, cursing in front of kids, or generally making a fool of themselves. If you can enjoy your alcohol responsibly the ice is as good of a place as any for it.
Just remember to keep safe I know when I'm walking on 3" this coming week I will be sober as a judge and expect my buddy to be as well.

Au contraire ! No law broken, at least a written law. Just a simple fact of the way a carbon oxygen heat engine operates. Basically that's our bodies and the science involved.
Simple logic !
Ethel is no lady and it cools the core temperature.
Simple logic, again !
Don't you feel smarter, knowing the truth ? No need to respond, just enjoy, until she gets you, ha.
Upnort, I see you didn't check the hyperlink, posted above, in re: NISSAN THERMOS. Two days, sitting on the ice and it'll still SCALD yer tonsils. lol

5 of us. I dont drink and I wont fish with anyone who brings booze.-I lost a friend because of impaired judgement. :(

No, no, no, make it 7.

Just never mind how much stock we own in coffee. :woot: :roflmao:
-
Busch light here. It's cheap and it's what 90% of people around drink so when I go to someone's house and they offer a beer it's my normal brew.
-
Fireball.

A mod had fun on this thread, too. ;)2

Fireball lol.....that is some good stuff right there. Anyone every drink Hacker-Pschorr??? On or off the ice just in general....A fine quality ale it is. Had a date with it last night its my new favorite all time beer....Sooo good, it's like a meal in a glass.

Those Germans make some darn good stuff ;)

Quit drinking soda a couple years ago, but on the long nights fishing for burbot I do bring a couple Mountain Dews along as well as instant coffee with French Vanilla creamer. Plenty of bottled water, keeping hydrated helps your body generate heat.
-
I'll usually bring a six pack if I'm going to be out all day but I usually stay on the move working a series of holes so don't usually get to drink more then two maybe three and they usually freeze up before I get the whole can gone now sitting on a river bank fishing for cats all night might call for a thirty pack if there's two or three of ya
-
I just make tea while on the ice.
While out there I am there to fish not to drink.
Drinking is for when I get home and turn on the hockey game. ;)
The drink of choice is rum.
FYI living and fishing where I do the beer would be frozen before I got to drink it. :D
-
Hacker-Pschorr... Damned fine brew. Germen beer is some of the best. It's just me.. I don't drink on the ice because I will soon need a place to Whizzzzzzzzzzz. I won't whiz on the ice.. As much as I like beer. I just choose not to drink on the ice.
-
I love my beer but just wait till I'm home. On the ice, a ginger ale for a few sips gets me through the day.

Drifter knows what's up!
I like beer just fine, but beer slushies get old pretty quick. For me on the ice it's coffee and water.
I'm planning on starting to bring hot water too, b/c the water bottle is usually frozen pretty quick too. Most lakes here are fine to drink, but there's enough bait shmarm around my holes that I don't mess with drinking straight from the hole...
-
Can't believe no one has mentioned ICEHOUSE! Nothin' like an Icehouse while in the ice house on the ice...
-
I've always found that the fish don't bite till I've got a beer chilling in the hole
-
I always pour a little bit of beer down the whole to keep my little fish buddies happy lol
-

I have a separate hole for my flasher.
I get my water from there. :D
I don't have to worry about my transducer when fighting a fish with this system too. ;)2
-
Make it 8. I take water to drink, and usually will treat myself to a mountain dew.
-

Well said.

Make that 2 for Busch light. ;D
-
3 for the bush. That is unless schmidt beer prints the can with the northern on the ice. Always have to grab a few boxes of that
-
I brew up a BIG brown ale just for ice fishing. Surprisingly smooth for the alcohol content (typically measures up 8.5-9.5). Just a couple, unless I am at the island for the weekend. Just mellow, but coffee and water, too.
-
A little blackberry brandy warms you right up !
-
If I'm by myself I don't drink. If I'm fishing with friends we drink nearly every single time. Too many of you guys think your pros lol. Relax and have fun with it. For us that means having a few!
-
Make it 9! Only problem with drinking a pot of coffee, is I have to drill another hole to pee in.
-
Snowshoe Grog, it's tradition in my family.
-
I have a tradition every year of doing Busch Lite on my first trip. After that- any good Pale Ale or German Pilsner...
-
Bud light and some apple moonshine on the long days. Mountain dew on the short trips
-

What is snowshoe grog I remember a friends dad giving us some when we were snowmobiling. It did warm me up but I was probably 14 or 15 and can't remember what it tasted like.
-
Its a peppermint schnapps. You can still buy it at certain liquor stores in Wisconsin. It is a good warmer upper. ;D
-
Peebers
-
If I'm ice fishing, it Busch every time. I'm out there to have fun, not pretend I'm the world's most serious angler.
-
well onn the cold days alone its usually a theros of hot chocolate...when its with a big group of friends...lets see blackberry brandy is a favorite mix in a few labatts..and maybe just maybe some dr mcgillicuddy cherry schnapps...never drunk just having a good time always with a driver to get me home or piss my wife off to come for me thank god its only 5 mins from home..hahahaha..practi ce safe drinking and ice fishing..
-
What I do first thing in the morning at 4:30am while I'm getting ready to go fishing is start boiling a large can of chicken noodle soup. But I also add an extra can of water, a little ketchup and sprinkle with cinnamon mix that up while still boiling on the stove and put into a HOT wide-opening Stanley thermos to keep it hot all day on the ice. This becomes a hot lunch around 11am and you have extra juice with flavor to sip on as well. In addition, I always have to have my other Stanley keeping coffee hot, a Nalgene of water (1000mL) and 2 Gatorades (I leave one in the truck for the ride home). And then you can do some snacks on top of that if you feel the need... maybe some elk jerky, PB&J, or chips. Whatever floats your boat.
-
bottled water on warm to cool days, hot cocoa with a dash of cayenne pepper (for added heat) on cold days.
The LAST thing I'd want to do is drink any alcohol on a cold day where I'd be driving afterwards.
I don't need / want a DUI for my troubles.
-
I enjoy having my wife drop me off at the lake with a few brewskies packed for the day. I have days where I "might" have a few too many, and days I hardly touch them. Usually bring something a little more relaxing : Bell's 2 hearted ale, Tommy-Knockers chocolate porter, Lavery Belfast black ale, or some good old Sam L Smith Tadcaster Yorkshire Stingo.
If I am on a lake with bar within close distance I will secure my shanty, remove my rods and tip-ups......and walk over for a cold beer and hot lunch. I make sure I can see my shanty from where I am though......way too many thief's out there.
If I drive to the lake, I bring a buddy who does not drink......always have a safe ride home.
If I am doing an all-nighter on a smaller body of water, I usually get pretty hammered.
Of course this is all when the ice is "safe" in my opinion. I don't fool around with booze on sketch ice (like this weekend here in NW PA). I have took my plunge - it was hard enough to get out when sober.
-
couple Heineken. yuengling if i am going to Ny. they dont sell it in Vt
-
I always have a 24oz coffee on the way there. I bring my 32oz Nalgene bottle full of water, which I leave in the truck. Out on the ice, I usually have a six pack of Bud Light or Coors Light. It's nice to relax having a beer while hardwater fishing & I usually only have 2 or 3 anyway. Don't want to be impaired on the trip home !!
-
If I am driving that day I will not have alcohol. I like to have a mug of fresh brewed joe with me. Usually I will also pack a water bottle or a diet cola. I do enjoy a good spiced rum or rye whiskey though!
-
30 pack Old Milwaukee.
-
A thermos of coffee and a thermos of hot chocolate for the kids. Beer is for back at the house after the kids are off the ice.
-
Thermos of homemade beef broth and a six pack of Torpedo IPA.
-
If I'm expecting a real snotty day, cold and wind, it's all coffee and soup for me. If I know I'll get some sun and 30's I'll enjoy a few beers during the day, usually a nice brown ale or a Guinness. Fishing and beer, whether hard or soft water, seem to go hand and hand.
-
usually stick to coffee and pop while fishing, but when im cleaning them got to have my budweiser.
-
beer is for safely consuming at home. I take my ice fishing to seriously to lose a trophy because of being impaired at all.i just take water.got to hydrate up so I can drink when I get home ;D ;D ;D
-
thermos of coffee to start.......12pk miller lite or coors light........when fishing is slow ;D ;D
