lots of lookers but will not take it
« on: Feb 07, 2015, 12:49 PM »
Fish the evening bite for Walleyes. See lots of them come in and look at Buckshot spoons, jigging raps, rattle baits and other jigging baits. Fish will look at it and some times come up off the bottom up to six feet chasing it, but will not commit. Even tried jigs and minnows and the same thing. Tried aggressive and just letting it sit there, but very few fish will take it. Any suggestions?

First off are you sure they are walleyes? When you say you tried "aggressive" jigging, how aggressive? I have triggered lookers by constant swimming a rap, or constant jigging a lighter spoon such as a do-jigger, this after the raising technique fails. When I say constant, I mean no pause after the jig and drop.

Just before dark, I used the camera and all it showed were walleyes.  Thanks for the suggestion and I'll give it a try.

Try  lighter weight  jig  tipped  with  minnow  head  and   pound  bottom  with  short  strokes  pause  once and  awhile.

Also  use  a  rod  like  JM  Meatstick  to  detect  light  taps.

If you are getting them 6' off the bottom, keep them coming up. Up, up, bam! Do they become disinterested when you stop going up?

I've had walleye chase my lure half way up the water column before they have taken it. Sometimes Supended and other times right off the bottom.
