Gizzard Shad Forage Base Walleyes
« on: Dec 11, 2010, 11:00 PM »
My local lake here has a strong population of gizzard shad and is the main forage for walleyes. Im curious to see how other people adapt to walleyes that roam after these schools of Gizzard shad. How do you locate the shad. What do you look for in bottom structure, depth, breaklines or flats? What types of lures do you use and whats your jigging style?

For a lure I would think you should try to find some Koppers Live Target Gizzard Shad Trap models.

Try some of these lures as well:

Chubby Darters, Acme Cleo spoons, Eppinger Daredevle spoons.

I agree with Slipperybob,

Don't forget the Jigging Shad Raps, and any spoon that you can jig Silver, Chrome, and Gold colors would be my first choice.

Hope this helps,

Wiener
