shanty rod holders?
« on: Dec 19, 2018, 09:09 AM »
I have a 2 man flip over nanook. Anyone have any tips for rod holders to mount on the side to free up my hands while changing jigs or messing with a fish? Any pics of your set ups?

When I had my Frabill commando I took a couple of wire rod holders that you put in the ground/bank.  I used a couple small metal wire clamps with the rubber inserts and mounted 2 per holder to the sled where I wanted the holders.  Insert the holder, check position, remove and bend until you get desired position.  The one thing I liked about them was they were easily swung out of the way for hole positioning, putting on the cover, and transport.

I haven’t used them but the cold snap rod holders are  supposed to be good.
Here’s a link that you can order them from for ice rods.

I seen some made from heavy wire, that just hung on the edge of the sled.  that pole clip deal would a be great extra hand though.

I have pieces of pvc(thin drain kind) screwed to my sled edge with wing nuts.  can take them off easy but I don't.  I just turn then in line with tub and go.

I made rod holders out of pieces of sink tailpiece extension, they work great.

I also used two different size sink tailpiece extensions so they nest together, saves a little bit of room.

For my dead stick I use a Multi-Flex Rod Holder from Catch Cover.

What diameter is Ice Gear?

Going to give the clamp on a try. I believe the size is in reference to shanty pole size and mine look much bigger than my old rover 1.0 so I went with the lg.

I thought about making some like you have or even the pvc. But for 4 dollars ea. I decided to try the clamps with adjustment both ways. Seems to be a new product so
Ill definitely give them some feed back on amazon review once I've used them a bit.
