Newbie looking for line recommendations
« on: Dec 09, 2017, 10:33 AM »
I have two straight line reels and am wondering what you all recommend for line. I will mostly be fishing for panfish/crappie. Do you use line specifically made for ice fishing or do you use regular mono? Thanks

for a line that has been on the market for along time you can't beat Berkley Micro Ice Mono. now with that said new this year Clam Pro Tackle has partnered with Sun Line Company to come out with the Clam Frost Ice Brand of line. they will be offered in Mono, Fluoro, & Braid. I will be using the Frost Ice Mono on all my rod and reel combos.

2-3 lb Micro ice or 2-3 lb Sufix Ice Magic. Both are very good line for crappie and bluegill.

Using a leader with a small swivel helps out a lot with your jig
Presentation.
Big help in deep water.
2 3 and 4lb mono also for me, with flouro leaders.

Agreed ...but I would get a good ball bearing swivel ....dark not chrome ...pan fish especially bluegills will go past yout bait/lure and hit a chrome/sliver swivel

I've been using Berkley Nanofil on my spinning reels and really like how it performs. Should work well with any type reel.

I found nanofil frayed terribly bad. Especially when ice builds up on the line.
