Finbore vs Swedebore?
« on: Dec 12, 2017, 10:45 AM »
I have a 6" Swedebore that cuts reasonably well, at least until the ice is 1 1/2 ft or so, but I understand that Finbores cut much faster. I am wondering if the diff is significant enough to splurge $150-200 on a Finbore. (I did a search and did find a discussion re curved blades but types other than Finbore muddied the discussion a bit for my purposes)

thx in advance for your comments.

Speaking from experience I have both, and yes the finbore is no question a better auger. This is due to the difference in blades. Swede bore blades shave, whereas finbore blades core the ice.

My finbore also came with the off-center handle which spreads the cranking power to both arms. Normally I drill three holes when fishing in a hub, and every time I move the hub it can get exhausting when using the Swede bore. No problem at all with the finbore, even when the ice gets over 18" thick.
