Actually those are rfid chips.  They don't track just allows someone with a scanner to identify the dog.

It's really too bad this type of thing goes on. Don't hear much about these things going on around here, but my wheelhouse goes with me when I leave the ice anyway. I would imagine it has happened around here at some time.
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.

Contrary to popular belief, in the States if you shoot someone strictly for stealing your stuff your ice fishing days are over. As well as your spending time at home days. Especially if the cops and DA see that sign and the guy was unarmed.

Some good ideas people. I thought the idea of a tracking chip was good.  Imagine the surprise when the cops show up and they are charged with a felony.  "No more Gun Hunting for you"  But I think my plan now is to take it with me when I leave.  Insurance guy said he didn't have a way to insure it.  Anyone ever done this?  I thought it would be no different than insuring my wheeler.

Iowa is a stand your ground state....if they come in your house.....just make sure there is only one side of a story.

Never been there but Iowa is now one of my new favorite states !
but if it makes people feel warm and fuzzy then i guess a gps tracker hidden inside the hut would be a simple way to recover some of your property.
But just think of all the time lost when you could be fishing !

You can insure anything... Should be written as a trailer policy with comp and collision... liability would fall under the veh towing it...length, weight, cost , and lien holder is all the info your insurance person should need.

I'm glad I don't live around where most of you do. We leave permanent shacks out on the lakes up here all the time. I have never heard of anyone having the troubles you guys seem to have. I have never had my shack broken into. But I would never leave anything very valuable in there anyway. If you can drive your truck or snowmobile right to your shack why leave anything in it, take it when you leave and throw it in the truck or sled.

Real time gps tracking device hidden in the shack frame structure and hard wired to the electrical of the shack so as soon as they hook electrical up it recharges the batteries on the gps  tracker..  if gone to long.. that's a extra safety factor.. but you got to conceal it so they can't find it like great stuff foam it in to a wall.. here is a link to one they even sell magnetic mounts for tracking cars so be carefull at your favorite spots..  ;D

I never leave anything in my shack, so I was only wondering what others do to secure their shack or deter theft of shack.  Unfortunately their are alot of lowlifes out there who think its easier to steal than work for what they get.  Sold a shack I had on wheels a few years back only to find out that someone stole it (off a lake) from the guy 2 weeks after he bought it.
