first ice
« on: Nov 29, 2017, 09:46 AM »
Just looked at the extended forecast. I know there are quite a few smaller dudes who are lucky enough to get on some local ice before Christmas. Keep your fingers crossed.

Unfortunately I missed almost all of the ice season last year after having shoulder surgery...hoping for a long season this year to make up for lost time!  Im not a small guy but with the way the forecast looks,  i'm sure hoping to get on Indiana ice by christmas

Fished on Summit Christmas Eve last year, but didn't last too long.  I think that was the only time I got out in Indiana last season.

Looking at my fishing log I see I iced fished on Dec 17th last year here in Wabash county. I also see my last trip was Jan 15th. Lets hope for a longer season this year.

Hunted goose pond yesterday in greene county.  Lots of sheet ice and several shallow ponds were locked up.  Most had melted by late afternoon from a combination of temps in the low 40's and high wind.  But,  the water is really cooling down.
It would be nice to get out before the holiday craziness sets in.

fish on,   here ducky ducky, fish off

Gonna try and get out tomorrow and chase some bows in the waders before I begin losing open water. Getting antsy but hate seeing my fly rods hanging in the basement

Last year's first night on the ice was Dec 19th, Miami County.  I actually told my son last week..slim chance we will fish before Xmas this year..those are some words I am more than happy to eat, hopefully as a side dish to some fresh caught crappie on Christmas Eve!!! Be safe!!

We just do not need snow on top of whatever ice we have made to get this going.
Fish on!

Saw some ponds that were shallow locked up. After temps last night lakes should be about primed and let's just keep fingers crossed for little snow for a bit

My ponds are icing up. Trout are no long cruising the shoreline. They've gone deeper for warmer water and the spawn is over for the brooks and browns.
I live in the midwest now but have fond memories of fishing in New England as a kid.

My pond locked up overnight.  I'm guessing currently at about a half inch.  She is super smooth.
I used to get excited about a 20 inch bass until I caught my first 40 inch dolphin.

My smaller ones are but the one that is exposed to the wind (no trees or brush) is only about half frozen.
