skim ice forming
« on: Nov 15, 2017, 04:09 PM »
I've seen more than one spot starting to freeze in New Milford...  Been even colder north of here.  May even have safe ice for early December.
If you can't play nice, get off the ice!

I've seen a lot of small ponds skimmed over in Enfield as well. Almost every pond had some sort of ice driving over the Berkshires just now too. Water temps are just about there. Just need some more cold temps. Still early though
The BIG one is just one flag away!

Species caught : largemouth, smallmouth,  bluegill, perch, White perch, crappie, trout, catfish, bowfin, pickerel, pike

No more skim in the berks at least where I traveled.  Took the boat out yesterday.  A bit windy for my tastes and spot lock lol. Surface temp was a mild 49.

Skim ice on the swampy pond in Sessions woods WMA in Burlington.  Moving the ice gear to the front of the shed and the lawn mower to the back!

Cold weather next week, gonna hunt hard this weekend, try to arrow a deer, then, barring a late warm snap or a favorable weather event, hanging up the bow and take out the fishing gear. Saw a bunch of skim on small ponds in the Litchfield area a few weeks ago, going to build ice all next week of the forecast holds up, I'll shoot any info I get to the C&R board.
A smart person would watch the few that ventured to the ice sheet, the daring would follow in their boot prints, but the pioneers would already be heading to where they belong.

It's been looking promising. I've seen a lot of shallow ponds skimmed over and not melting during the day.

Yeah metal, the snow is a mixed blessing. It's gonna wreck the ponds that are already skimmed, but will really help cool down the bigger lakes. The forecast I heard this morning says 3-7", yesterday it was just a dusting.  ::)

More forecasted for my neck of the woods.  Not much for skimmed ice to wreck up by me.  Taking the boat out tomorrow in Winsted.

Took the boat out today.  38.4 was the lowest I saw for surface temp.  Walking on water tomorrow!

Nice brown, with a little kype. Do you think he had been in the lake for a while, or a recent tank scrubber?

Looking at the photo again I would guess he's been in the lake a while. He's a nice one either way.

Nice looking brown indeed. Trailer get a little squirrely in the snow?
Had a couple buddies dawn the dry suits and hit a cove on the river for pike. They both did ok. The snow in the backdrop made for some nice photos.

The trailer was not squirly at all surprisingly. Issue I had is the boat pushing me down the hill with the brakes locked. I ended up pointed at the boat a couple times before deciding to use the shoulder to get some grip. Had I stayed at highland it would have been a flat tow back...I caught the brown got bored and went to the berks...

Ice on the small pond next to me in Woodstock.  Hoping this cold snap will lock up the larger waters such as Black pond or West Thompson
