Lake Champlane
« on: Nov 02, 2017, 09:17 PM »
Wanting to finally fish for the Lake Trout on Champlane this winter. Never fished the lake before and was thinking about the North Hero area. Any advice from fellow fisherman familiar with the lake will be appreciated. A great hard water season to all.

Fished North Hero many times but never saw any Lake Trout caught.  Holiday Harbor great place to stay, right on the water.  Call Tom Batchelder there and he can help you out,

Never fished for them in that area, but what I can say is that I tend to get them where really deep water (100 foot plus) meets moderately deep water (50 or 60 feet), mainly in the main channel of the lake. Trouble is, these spots don't freeze every year, and even when they do, it's not till late in the season, and the ice is often sketchy. You'd be better off jigging from a boat if Champlain is your target.

Areas for lake trout action depend on the ice conditions.
Inland sea or as close as you can get near it are your best bet.
I catch them occasionally while walleye fishing.
