Frabill Flip-Over Shanty Mod
« on: Jan 23, 2015, 10:07 AM »
So, I took the plunge this year and overhauled my Frabill Trekker Flip-over Shanty. I basically made a wood frame, wrapped everything in aluminum, added a plywood top with marine carpet, seat/lids, magnet tray (for hooks, jigs, etc.), and cup-holders. I also installed waterproof LED's with a remote dimmer switch (SUPER CHEAP on ebay, around $6 total.) connected with an extra 12v battery I had laying around. I also added a Hyfax runner kit with a front and rear hitch assembly for towing multiple shanties.

I know you're asking, yes, its freakin heavy. The whole thing added 60lbs to my sled. This is not a problem towing behind a 4 wheeler or on bare ice, but it's definitely not the best for long walks or in the snow. It's a one piece, stand alone design, so it can be easily removed and dropped back place quickly.

Very nice! I wanted to make mine this nice, but needed to keep the weight down for my style of fishing so I used fiberglass. It does not look near as nice as this though.

Hey jschragg, it ended up around 60 lbs. Just stapled the carpet to the plywood.

Thats pretty sweet, congrats nice job.
If you get a chance the new seats are much lighter and could cut some of your weight down later.
Nice job. ;)

Looks awesome, enjoy pulling that on smooth ice as long as you can.  Been smooth sailing walking on ice this year with almost no snow, last year I was walking through 15+" everywhere.

Today on Ice Shack Makeover SexiVexi28 proceeds to blow other mods out of the water with his tricked out shack. In all seriousness, that is some great handy work. Nice job.

How can I view the pics? It's not letting me view them.
The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad.
