There's certainly plenty of good eating size perch on LMR and nice kokanee as well. It's often slow to freeze up good and there are numerous springs, but the best part about the lake is that it has a max depth of around 47 feet, which makes it far easier when dialing in kokanee that are stratified than lakes that are a couple hundred feet. Kokanee bite typically is at it's best the the further you go towards the end of season.

Thanks BK ....... great info.   What do you consider decent size kokes and perch,  and are there any other species in numbers in LMR??? Thanks again for your help

Rockymtnfisher,

No problem, in my experience perch that are good eating size 7”-9” is the average and you’ll pick up a couple over 10” some days. There are some big perch out there in the 12” range as well.

Kokanee seem to average in the the 9” to 11” range depending on the year class which makes them the perfect eating size as well.

Perch make up the majority of the biomass but occasionally you’ll pick up some small rainbow trout out there as well.

Perch and kokanee are definitely the two species you’d want to target.

I have spent some time with a camera in the hole, there are a lot of perch, and some good sized ones. I have a 1.54lb perch as my biggest (won a tournament with it). I have also had days where we catch 60-70 and keep 10. Good luck!

I've never heard of anyone targeting bass through the ice on lmr, but folks do (very) occasionally catch them while targeting perch and kokanee.
