I'm not sure how exactly the law reads, but I don't put anything in the water that would make it look remotely like I'm targeting pike. Just to be safe.
Stick to fatheads and perch rigs to be safe.
The angle of the dangle is directly proportionate to the heat of the beat.

I think you are right. Open all year. It drives me nuts when I see guys tossing big lures in late April. Glad the river, from the Bridge North, is closed from 3/15 to ALL fishing...h2l

Anybody out on South Bay?  Been awhile since I have been up there, and our ice is shot here in Mass. Was  looking to make another trip next weekend.

if all we are supposed to talk about is ice fishing I guess no one should have complained about those guys with the boats in front of the creek....after all Saratoga didn't have any ice at the time  ;D..............

Sorry , I tried to answer your question and it says ice fishing permitted ,, I googled ice fishing Long Island and found some interesting things , my buds up north refer to it as tropical ice LOL , we also have members on this site from down that way

I have been on the ice on long island before .....and you can target bass anytime  just catch and release ...it's in the BOOK

seems to me a guy that knows all about releasing  fish and  complains about others would actually know the laws without having to ask us ..........just saying

Yes u can fish for pike in Champlain now. The only issue I see is being your from Mass is your bait certified in ny it must be . I know in Mass there is no such thing as certified bait that's why I ice fish your way and catch my own bait. Bureaucratic bullcrap hoping Trump changes some of these pathetic policies my 2 cents.

just funny because now a days, "pike bait" catches nice fat perch. if I go to wiggly worm right now and got the biggest shiners they have, probably no more than 3 inches long), id be killing the big perch.

my point is, yeah I am using pike bait, but not targeting and think DEC needs to realize that when patrolling. I mean if I was using suckers and perch for bait and bog jumbo shiners (which are extinct anyways) lol, I would understand

If you are a bait dealer in Mass there very much is a certification process.  All the baitshops are buying and are reporting the amount purchased and sold certified.  Most of which are buying from local distribution channels that are in turn buying from Andersons amd receiving the certification doc with their order.  The difference is anglers can still trap and use wild baits in more than one location without a bait receipt of any kind.
