I said it on the PA forum, March isn't the month that we make ice. It's the month that we hope the ice we got hangs on for as long as it can. It ain't so much the wind or temps, it's that big fireball in the sky. It's getting closer to us and higher in the sky. We won't be making any real ice until the winter equinox rolls around again in December.

This isn't PA homeboy.

I can still fish, but not really where I want to fish. I'm past that part of my life where I will go to a spot and chase dink pike just because it has ice. Unfortunately my favorite places are trashed. Maybe time to jog perch a couple times..

I'm ready to get the Lund out and chase muskies.

I was starting to think it could happen on the smaller lakes and ponds, its darn cold out there, but no way with all the snow coming. At least you snowmobile guys will get one last hurrah.

Careful all!  I hung it up weeks ago and although very tempted, think about family.

I'm more like southern Ontario, then NY, up here. So yeah, it's pretty far. But you already know it all, don't you?

It's funny, this month here where we don't "make ice," I've been seeing double digit below zero nights. And we've been making ice hand over fist. But you knew that, too.

so like, what, it's all about you? really.

well, I'm in Northern PA, so with your thinking, it's almost southern NY.

So you have plenty of ice happening and a real cold winter. That's nice. I guess you weren't really worrying too much about a possible late season recovery then??? so what's your point?

geez, it was a real friendly kinda conversation until these clowns decided to make it some kinda weird turf war.

not gonna waste my time.

After 3 plus months and close to 50 days on ice, I broke my dominant wrist due to Stella yesterday.  No late season recovery for me . 2016-17 season  over !

Not that I would fish any of it trap but lots of our open water in Northern CT has iced back up and is now "fishable".

lot of safe ice  in the ADK's and  in the artic circle as well  ,that's not what  we been talking about  and  now  with the warmer waters covered  by snow  the ice will rot from  under the ice ....... it's  simply common since  of you had open water  and it refroze I ain't getting on it

I haven't seen this happen in all of my years, but there's a chance we recovered a couple Lake George bays.
3 weeks ago I cut more than 8" of ice. In that time it has opened and skimmed back over as of 2 days ago.
I'll bet a paycheck a few of the LG crazies will be parked at our early ice spots this weekend. What worries me are the temps next week.

We recovered a lot of shorelines of small waters and some smaller lakes will now be ice fishable clear to April.
There isn't just a chance in some areas of the state. The late season recovery has indeed happened for some of us.

If you don't know... don't go. Simple as that really.

I knew I should have slipped out Sunday morning before anniversary fesitivities.  :-\
Probably would've gotten wet with my history of fishing days that I shouldn't.  :P
I'll give it one more weekend on ice this weekend and I'm switching gears to open water panfish.

Fishing was great but catching was non existent  ........  i broke off the only laker i hooked and my buddy went for perch and caught dink after dink but no keepers.
