anybody checked the ice around the QC?
« on: Nov 18, 2014, 06:07 PM »
I was wondering if anybody had checked any of the small ponds in the area around the QC. I was thinking about trying the canal out by Geneseo Saturday.
 Thanks
  Matt

Main channel just froze last night. Be careful you could get stuck in the mud lol!!!

Isaac Walton (Siggy Bay) is frozen over but the channel is not. Checked this morning, wouldn't trust it until channnel is frozen over. Really the only good spot in Geneseo is Siggy Bay.

the wind has left a few of the ponds i drive by open in places.   the weekend should clear off any ice that is on the water with near 50 degree temps and rain.

swollen feet keeping me off ice for bit so for me no ice now is good.

You won't get me out fishing anytime soon.  We're most likely 2 weeks away from good safe ice.

After the rain this weekend we will prob be a month out unless we get a polar vortex with no wind.

Been watching the 10 day for the last couple days and each update seems to show the highs getting lower and lower. Before they were showing every day this week above freezing with lows in the 20's, now they are saying a couple days above freezing (33, 34) and the rest in the 20's with lows in the teens and low 20's. That should start the process over again as long as we do not get too much snow on monday.

But as of right now, no.. there is no good ice around here unless you have a small shallow pond protected from a WNW wind.

Best guess would be Dec 10 for good solid ice on most waters.

I will be happy if we can be on the ice before Christmas.
