Has anyone been successful targeting lake whitefish?  Any size to them around here in PG?

Years ago on the prairies we hit deep water(60-80 ft for there) and fish 25-15 ft under the ice for them, much like kokanee fishing

In the Great Lakes and area we fished for whitefish, and usually used a teardrop jig with either maggot or shadfly larvae(wigglers). Fished right on bottom, just jigging or lifting up off bottom, similar to walleye fishing.
