Weekend on Newfound
« on: Jan 30, 2024, 06:51 AM »
Got out for a few hours on Saturday and Sunday over the weekend. Very slushy/watery conditions on Saturday, some spots had 2-3" of water on top of 7-10" of ice. Fished from 12-5 after we got the bobhouse on the ice. Fishing was pretty slow, but the highlight was jigging up a 2.29 laker on six pound test. Made for a great fight and was surprised the line didn't break because that fish smoked a microjig.

Sunday got in about an hour after the kids did some sledding and I also wanted to get on the road before the snow started to get home for the football games. Got one above average cusk on a cusk line and then jigged up a decent perch. A few of the guys in our group also mixed in a few pickerel and perch. The big highlight Sunday was the resident eagle grabbing a perch off of the ice about 20' away from me. That will never get old!

Thanks for the Newfound report! Fishing on the Cummings beach end or is the larger lake locked in yet? I believe yours is the first report from Newfound.

I was up in the Hebron end. On my way home I saw some people off of Cummings.

Wide open from the wellington boat ramp all the way just south of Hebron.

There’s always a chance but looks doubtful. The lake hasn’t froze over completely in two years.

I was going to say, it's been a couple years now. I haven't been able to get to some of my favorite laker spots.

The derby at the end of February is looking like it's in jeopardy again.
