I saw a couple of brief threads on this idea in the past but I thought I'd ask again.
This past fall we caught some large, late season pike on a virtually stopped 4" gulp alive in smelt color. We were fishing in clear, calm water (about 20ft) and you could see the pike studying the bait for 10-20 seconds before striking.
This reminded me of many of the ice fishing videos I've seen of how pike cautiously approach minnows and since I already have the bait it's no big deal to put a few on tip ups.
