Title: Is anyone up for a gathering on Lake George?
Post by: prchslyr on Feb 06, 2010, 04:34 PM
I'm curious to know if any of you are interested in having an IS gathering on Lake George. I will be willing to do most of the coordinating via another thread. It may be a good idea to give it 2 or 3 weeks to help with a decent turnout and ice conditions. If the current weather continues most of the lake should have 12" or better within the next couple weeks...We hope.
Before I start an actual thread devoted to coordinating a gathering. I want to see who pipes in, and with what. What weekend? Saturday or Sunday? What bay or area? Any thoughts guys?

Some place close to a camping area would be cool.
Hearthstone or Rogers Rock are options too.
I think I can talk fishingforkarma into joining us as well.

are any of the campsites open for winter camping? ... if so maybe March would be better with warmer temps

Any state campsite is fare game on the off season unless otherwise posted.

I am game regardless of the date, temp or weather. Gimme a good ice report and I am there :D

Awesome guys! We're already cookin here. I don't fish the beach much but you are right, ship of fools. There is decent fishing for the perch guys and the laker guys. It has the best parking situation and would be the easiest to find if anyone from out of town would like to join us. MDB sounds like a good idea to me.

Just to be safe. Everyone should bring enough for yourself and your crew. Dishes to share would be really cool. I've got a killer chicken wing dip that I could con the girlfriend into making.

You are correct. If we are to stick with MDB, it would have to be in March. The carnival runs the entire month. We could pick another spot. But most of the other good lots are close to full at daylight.

Title: Re: Is anyone up for a gathering on Lake George?
Post by: oletimer on Feb 07, 2010, 05:34 AM
I could be coerced into getting on lake George again. If this weather pattern holds and the ice gets thick enough to make me feel safe. One bad experience in the early 80's has kept me off it. But a chance to meet the guys on here would be fun.
Title: Re: Is anyone up for a gathering on Lake George?

By the time this comes to fruition there will be cars and trucks driving all over. We'll be sure to pick a spot that has good consistant ice as to put none of us at risk. Hope you can join us 'oltimer. This very well may turn into one heck of a gathering.

How about a weekend in March when the perch have come in to stuff themselves in preparation for ovipositing.  The lakers and all the other goodies will still be in abundance as well.  Great idea.  Chicken wing dip, eh?  I will be in town by Thursday, where are you hammering perch?  See you soon.  Peace.

That was part of my train of thought. MDB is a decent spawning area for the fattie perch. Bird21s hammered them there last year at late ice.
People are hammering the perch all over the King this year. The last couple days have been tough from what I'm hearing. Hopefully that changes in like...30 minutes lol. My current spot I need to keep on the DL out of respect for the person that brought me there.

Sweet guys. Sunday may work best for me also. If it turns into a big to do, I probably won't fish very hard either. By the time it happens we'll be driving on the lake there. If that is the case I may bring a gas grill out with me.

Title: Re: Is anyone up for a gathering on Lake George?
Post by: prchslyr on Feb 08, 2010, 05:23 AM
I appreciate any offers of help for sure. My original intentions were to loosely get a handful of guys together. We will at least need to get some grub out there. Numbers and wheather permitting, I'll have a gas grill out there. We already have a decent crew going and there are plenty that haven't chimed in yet. I will post a date tonight sometime.
I doubt we'll be doing any sort of giveaways as I really have no connections but...We could make an attempt. If we told Fish307 that our entire crew will be stopping in at one time or another that day they may be willing to do something. They would recognize my girlfriends face before mine because she's always getting my bait for me when I'm working, I got lucky with her.
Combsey-Could we get a little attempt with that. I know you've laid some solid cash on that counter the last few years. I'm not begging, but it would be a really cool  8) addition for sure.
I'm a corny kind of dude so I'm always rockin' my IS duds. If you have any, throw it on for the day. If you don't, visit the pro-shop and join the cool kids club. Kind of kidding but we'd be doing IS some good when others walk over to see what all the commotion is.
As I said. Look for a date tonight. I would have to set it in stone as I typically work weekends and have to put in for the day off. We've had a fairly easy year on the ice but there is always a chance of running into some harsh conditions. We will do this regardless of the weather that day. Anyone with out a portable need not to worry. There will be at least 4 cube style shanties with heaters going to step in and take the edge off. All doors will be open to anyone for sure.

I am happy just meeting up in a local Establishment the night before. Have a couple of cocktails and show off your favorite fishing picks. Bring your Liar books. That would be as good as fishing. Discuss strategy and get ready for fishing the next day. Maybe sit at a big table and eat diiner and chit chat

I am bringing 10 tipups and all the BS that goes with them. Maybe we can stir up some nice atlanicbrowntrout. It's a new variety. I here tell the Lake George is an awesome spot to find them. Cpt. JJ is very familiar with these difficult fish to find. I hope you guys are not blowing smoke. My Fishing apprentice will be all wound up. He read an article about fishing the King and he will be really twisted up at a chance to fish it. The chance to fish with some locals will only make him drool all day at school. Add too that the thought of  having a great day out on such a magnificent lake with the Lake George Fishing Legends. I'll have to send him to school wearing a drool bib. He'll probably be asking for autographs when we get there. He reads the threads all the time.

Title: Re: Is anyone up for a gathering on Lake George?

Bring the tipups guys. We want to see some fish on the ice. Just be cognizant of how far a laker can run. They definitely aren't pike.
Of course it would be great to have something to give away for the "nice" fish of the day. But I'm not sure if 307 would hook us up. Combsey and I will at least ask tomorrow. It doesn't hurt to try. If they don't, no love lost.
We know darn well rg will see this thread at one time or another. Get on up here rg for some perchslaying madness...we hope.
As it stands this second, I am waiting for a call from the bossman to give me a go ahead on the 7th. If he doesn't let me take it off his email will be posted on this thread, kidding.
I'm tempted to see if the site could do anything for a giveaway but I won't say it out loud. Hint hint. Not to put anyone on the spot but again...worth a shot.
In the meantime guys. Tell your non IS buddies to pop on the site and check out this thread along with the unlimited info it has to offer. If we were able to hook up a giveaway I think it should be solely for IS members. I know some of you are bringing buddies so tell them to log on to the site.

If you do come up and need a place to crash you won't have a hard time finding a room. Lake George is a big tourist town. Tons of hotels and motels. Fort William Henry is as close as it gets.
There is a big winter carnival each weekend of this month. I know one of the weekends consists of cars racing in a circle track right over our perch beds...the nerve. If they end up doing the races they will have rv's, trucks, and trailers all over the ice. I won't say that it is safe to drive a truck on the ice but I will try to post a pic of all the cars out there the week before we take over that end of the lake. Really cool sight.

Wow! You guys are pretty optimistic too. Let's hope for a good turn out.
Just a thought to mention for any drinkers. Only because it has been mentioned. Be aware of open container laws just to be safe. I'm not an uptight dude at all. It doesn't bother me one bit if people have a couple drinks. But, if we end up with a good crowd out there we will be attracting some attention. I'd bet we get checked out by DEC. Which is also fine by me. Keep all your ducks in a row. And remember, as a crew we will be somewhat representing the site and we all want to do that in a respectful manner.
Wouldn't a keg get all shaken up on a quad, troutaddict33? I've been cursed with an allergy to beer. My beverage of choice isn't the greatest for trying to walk on ice.

I will buy a drink for anyone that shows up with a book with fising photos. Promise
I called a pal that works with Frabill. I am really sure he will come up with a couple of give aways. He owes me anyway so rest assured that I will arrive bearing gifts for the Biggest, smallest fish and strangest incident that makes me bust up laughing on our day out. And don't forget Cocktail Hour with the Photo Albums.

If everyone sets for salmon we're bound to get ONE keeper  :D
I plan on setting at least 10 out for Salmon. That's what we are all about. Ever fished tip-downs for Lakers?? It's alot of fun

I'm sorry for the delay guys. March 7th it is. I believe we had already settled on Million Dollar Beach. We picked the beach because of the parking lot. We'll keep our date set in stone. But as for the spot. Let the ideas rip. Let's make it a group effort.
andycapp-That would be really cool if your Frabil buddy could pull through like that.
I was advised though that we will probably have more fun if we keep it simple. I can't say I disagree. If it's a layup for you, put a bug in his ear. I really don't have any connections like that but I will put forth an effort. Just to be safe I will say to not count on me to pull through with a giveaway.

That will be awesome andycapp. Thanks to you and your buddy at Frabil.
We have more than 40 people interested. I had no idea this would generate so much interest. I thought we would be lucky to get 20 guys out there.
Do you guys want to settle on Million Dollar beach? Or should we give it a little more time before we make that decision?
As for a gathering pregame. If you guys want to meet up the night before, I may be game. I can't commit to that yet.
Once we have all the details of our actual gathering ironed out. Someone could start a thread for the gathering pregame. A gathering the night before may be more difficult to coordinate. You would need to make some sort of reservation before you walk into a restaurant or watering hole with 40 guys. Then you would have to count on everyone showing if you committed to a place. I'm not trying to be pessimistic, just playing devils advocate.
Weather permitting. I will have my two boys out there (5 and 8). My brother will also have my niece there.

MDB sounds good, maybe I can talk my son into joining me(if the ladies let him off that day lol).
I kind of look forward to being on the lake again, and being later in the season always a good chance at a decent fish there. Will keep track of whats going on with this,IE: time and general direction heading out. Keep in mind some of us will be walking(no machines to use). Sounds like a great time for all.

We'll give it another day for others to pipe in before we settle. I'll have my kids with me (5 and 8). I too am a walker. More often than not I drag my gear with them sitting on top of the pile. Regardless of where we set up we will make sure it's easy access for everyone. I'm sure Combsey won't mind doing a little hauling.

Yeah I'll be walking too. I won't be able to make the pre-game the nite b-4 tho. Where's everyone staying overnite anyways? I'll be at MDB bright and early tho.

I only live 20 minutes away from a good chunk of Lake George. If someone wants to plan a pregame, have at it. As I said I won't be able to commit for now. I'll be there long before daylight to stake my claim for the day. Let's hope for some decent weather.

I will toss this out.
I am working in Rochester. I know that it's tough for some of you guys up north this time of year. Been  there done that. I like talking about fishing with others that like fishing too. My kid love the outdoors as well as me. When I was a kid Grampa had a place up north and I grew up spending summers fishing and playing in the woods near Inlet. I don't have a place to take my kid up north. So this is probably the only chance I have to get him out with some guys that know their way around on the KIng.
So my point is, I always good for a few pitchers of beer and a few dozen wings. So lets really try and make this a meet and greet weekend. I have some great Finger Lakes fishing spots I can hook any of you guys up north with if you can make it to Rochester. It would be great to see a face behind the posts

Launching at the MDB requires regi, ins and helmets with a hard bar for towing. I was there last weekend and was checked by undercover DEC (plain clothes and unmarked vehicle). I am all legal and no problems....

Reg and ins with a helmet is no problem, but a hard-bar for towing a sled?  Its common sense so you sled doesnt crash into you when you slow down, but a regulation?

im just a little curious here. will there be something set up to indicate the gathering. or is it more or less show up at mdb start fishing and mingle around with everyone out there. ill probibly be on the ice no later then 5-530 (i like to have tip ups in with time to relax during sunrise) and im assuming that most guys wont be out that early. just wondering how we will nkow whos there for the gathering and whos just there fishing and doesnt know what iceshanty is. either way well sure meet a lot of new people out there that day.
Title: Re: Is anyone up for a gathering on Lake George?

I'm not sure if I will be there THAT early  :o. You don't play games jimi. I do plan to be on the ice before daybreak though. My brother is cool enough to bring my kids a little later on and bring them home when they've had enough. He will have my niece with him as well. So don't leave the kiddos behind fellas. I will have a black Eastman Ice Cube portable up. My buddy Combsey will have a Shappell6000 up. Also a cube style. I'm working the boss for a banner. If it's not horriblly windy and we can figure it out, it will be attached between the two cubes.
I'll be wearing a black IS hoodie and skull cap because I'm corny and superstitious like that  ;D. The hoodies catch fish...serious.
If we end up with even half the guys that have shown interest we are going to have a good chunk of water covered on the local jiggers. I'm sure some of them may not care for all of us being there, especially the week after the carnival. If they don't know what Iceshanty.com is now...They will THEN! We have a cool  8) group of guys brewing here so I think we'll make some new friends out there. If the truck can drive on the ice. I may bring the laptop. It would be neat to be able to show off the site on the spot when someone asks.

That's just the way I like to start my day. Get everything set up before sunrise. Have coffee and relax. Mind if my son and I set up our tipups in the area? Can we join you early? I never got a big Laker jigging. Just little ones. I need to learn.

iv only ought a couple big ones and it wasnt that area. but your more then welcome to meet me and my buddy up there and set up with us. word is the lakers are all over that time of year and sense the carnival keeps guys off the ice it could be a great spot. im just gonna go out and find the deeper water and set up. see how i do.
Title: Re: Is anyone up for a gathering on Lake George?

The last couple years I have done fairly well with lakers on tipups. I too have issues jigging for them though. Just yesterday I spent most of my day jigging for them to come up empty. I head into a bay to jig perch and I finally hit a laker. I was using an UL with 2# test and a tiny marmooska. At 22" I was shocked I even landed it.
I will probably set up closer in toward the perch. This way we will be easier to find and I can greet fellow users on the way out. I may join you guys that early though.
On this note we will also set our spot in stone. Million Dollar Beach it is!

I'm in for Sunday the 7th @ MDB! I can't guarentee an arrival time, thats all based on the amount of beers I have the night before, but I'll be there! I'll be in tan bibs, black jacket, black hat, dark blue Shappell 2.0DX with a black Polaris quad. Maybe alone, maybe with 4 others, who knows. But count me in, I put it on the calender so the ol' lady knows I'm goin!! I probably won't catch a damn thing, but i never do, i just enjoy gettin out! ha ha. See you all then or sooner!   :icefish:

Thanks Combsey that will definitely make life easier. I doubt my junk will be able to deal with any snow on the ice. Ill show up at the same time as you. You have to let me pay for bait this time man. I doubt ill do much laker chasing. Ill probably set out 5 tipups for lakers and chill. If we end up with a big crowd I may not do much jigging until uncle Tank shows up with the kiddos. Ill probably do some socializing between flags. I guess we'll see what happens that day. You know how I roll. I'm going to coin myself the ADD fisherman. Ill fish for whatever feels like biting.

I am in from Rochester so I will be up Friday or Sat. Depends on the Hotel deals I can find. Nothing fancy or too cheap. Days Inn  or something like that. It's a pretty good drive for us. But we're tough so we can ake it as early as possible. We will be bring live bait with us. We will be ready first thing.

I'm also excited to meet y'all. not that we talk much much, but hard water fishermen should all be friends. like i said, look for the shappell 2.0DX and the black polaris. For an early glimpse, come to vets tomorrow. I'll be out jiggin away!

So yes to the keg then? Haha, no i unfortunately can't make it that weekend unless i pull off a miracle and get 10 days of work done in 6 days. Make sure you bring some cameras though. I've seen the WNY gatherings and wish we had a local one for a while. Hopefully it can become an annual event and I can make it next yr. good luck guys

I didn't want people to think it's going to be some kind of uptight crew. The guys that I know personally that are joining us are definitely NOT uptight. I would just hate to see ECO or Sheriffs come out and scratch open container tickets at something I had a hand in. I also want people to feel welcome to bring there little ones.
That sucks that you can't join us trout. I'm sure I'll bump into you again this year out there though. Hopefully it will become a yearly tradition. I'm shocked this isn't done more often on the KING.
I know I will have my camera out there. Combsey can posts pics on the spot with his phone. My phone has the capabilities to do it but...I don't. I should stop at Verizon beforehand.

Very small, white or black, no swivel, extremely light line, hide the hook with grubs hooked through the head, spring tip or lighter poll and dead stick for the lite bite. If no electronics...couple cranks off the bottom...Hope this helps.

It doesn't bother me a bit to have guys jigging through my spread whether I know them or not. I'm not sure how much jigging i'll do. I will probably do more chit chatting than jigging.

I never looked at it that way before... I'm kinda excited now. But then again, ice fishing season only comes but once a year, MILF season is open all year! Hmmm... I'll keep you posted. I'll be fishing either way, milfs just determine how long! 8)

Anyone fishing the Hague Derby?? I want to target Atlantic's. Between the 4 of us that is 20 tipups. Add to that anyone else than knows where to find them. Anyone?

I'm not much of a derby guy. I'm not dead against it. I just choose to not fish them. I like to fly off the cuff and fish as long as I want. What weekend is it? I do have the following weekend off.

It's 2/26-2/27 The registration is Hague Beach. It's $15. Kids under 16 are free. I am looking for Atlantic's. I have some ideas, but I have never been to any of these spots. It's a learning experience for the Derby just makes me fish harder. I will keep mixing it up until I hit something. It would be great if there was someone that had been there done that kinda thing.

I'm pretty sure you can count us in, how far are out are you planning on going? Sounds like quite a few on foot. We're usually on foot, though suppose we could drive the SUV out. We live right here in LG .

I'm going to have my little ones dropped off to me on the ice (thanks uncle tank) so I don't plan on heading out to far. Hopefully I can get them on some perch then send them home to mom tired and covered in scales.lol.

We don't really do the Schroon derby anymore, last year was a serious disappointment, hardly any fish hanging at the club house.

Greatly appreciated prchslyr from the people who have to travel.  I'm taking a very rare day off on Wednesday to fish Vets because I'm kinda leery with how the shoreline was when I left yesterday...all the machines were tearing it up during the contest.  Looks like access will be very limited very soon.

I myself haven't the past 3 years.  My fishing buddy got paralyzed 10 years ago and he has finally expressed desire to get out there again....SLD was something we had done in the past, so we figured why not.  SL is very hit and miss.

It hasn't changed from 3/7.
I know at least one person that had planned to attend, will not due to the recent "accidents". I can't knock a guy for being overly safe. The Million Dollar beach area holds a lot longer than most areas of the lake.

With the weather looking as sketchy as ever this weekend. We are going to stay home. The NWS is predicting high winds and heavy snow. I hate Blizzard Fishing. It's not that I don't like the cold and snow, I just hate the wind screaming down the Lake. We will get up there this season, just not this weekend. I do have a nice collection of Frabill stuff to share.

Troutaddict33 is correct. This snow wasn't to good for us that's for sure. The ice in that area will be fine but other areas won't hold up as well. I'm definitely glad we settled on the beach. I would be tempted to cancel had we picked vets or one of the other spots. Will you be able to make it next weekend andycapp?

If Vets. park or another good access point on LG no longer have safe ice conditions the weekend of 3/13-14, then Walt can pick a lake and I will follow him around, whether it's Schroon, Champlain or something else within 1 hour drive from Diamond Point.

I have a lil coleman suitcase grill that I always have with me. I have a small weber that I can bring out if the shoreline will hold up with a quad. I plan on bringing some hot sausage and dogs of course. it does seem like a young crowd which is fine by me at 32.
Oletimer- If you're still watching this thread at all. I know the conditions haven't been the greatest on the king this year.  That is the reason we picked the beach area. It normally freezes up first and is the last to thaw. Aside from maybe Harris, it will be the safest ice on the lake. We hope you can join. Otherwise jj may be coined "The old dude" for the day. Don't do that to him man. Kidding. We'll have some fun either way! Let's hope some of those fatty female perch are ready to hit.

45 today!! YUCK! I'm gonna go ahead and not bring the wheeler, maybe just the rods, a folding chair and some food for us all. any ideas? boots and socks are accounted for, fishin wet is fine, fishing cold is fine, but fishing cold and wet is unnacceptable. Unless the bite is good, that trumps all. what do we want to eat?

came to a small crack on the ice today when i was walking out to jig in 90 fow. threw a small rock at it, and it broke through and sunk to the bottom. Be careful out there. the holes have opened up big, the shore line is loose, and pressure cracks are unsafe.

Well. I can't speak for everyone but I'll probably just stick to the first little perch area to the right when you walk off the boat launch. No need to take any unnessecary risks. I hate to say this too. I might not bring the kids out either. That all depends on the slop and the condition of the ice.
I'll be fishing that area in the AM Tues and most likely Thursday. Just to stay up to date as much as possible and hopefully find some good fishin to set up over. I'll post here and on reports and conditions on the ice both mornings.
I plan on bringing some sausage and dogs out with me to grill up. I'll be sure to have plenty to share. If we can't get my grill out (safely) with a quad. I will have a little coleman stove that works well. A few other people have also mentioned bringing some sort of grub to share. Would it be best for us to try and coordinate in the food dept. too? I'm not saying we all NEED to bring something. But a handful of us with some decent grub might help, "Make the day" if the fishing is slow. I can also get plenty of soda at cost if you don't mind Pepsi products. ;D.
For those that don't meet up in the parking lot. We will be easy to find. Two hub portables with a small banner between the two...If it will work. I'll letter up IS on one side. Unless you guys think I should just leave the Corona side out. ;D

Does anyone else have a small grill? I'm in the lot now and there's a guy unloading a quad. But, who knows if its going to be safe for that this weekend. Who knows if THIS dude is even safe. Burgers wouldn't be a bad idea.

The shorline is getting awful punky. We're definitely cutting it close. Once you get out there's still 12" though. It is plenty safe which was a concern of mine before I got out there. We're expecting some decent lows at night for the tail end of this week. Let's hope the slush turns to ice for us.
I joined up with mealworm out there. I don't know about him but I felt like an old man when I got off the ice today. Nice lil workout high-steppin through 6" of crap all day. Niether of us put tipups out because we didn't feel like dealing with them. Slow going with the jig sticks but we didn't work to hard with those either. Hopefully Thursday I can come up with a better report for you guys. I don't think we caught 10 perch between the 2 of us.

I parked on the beach today with no issues with my 2wd. Save yourselves a little hassle and park out there. I don't think the town has an issue with it. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I didn't drive out onto the actual lake. I just parked on the beach itself and walked out.
Tater or mac salad? Something that would go good with hot sausage.
I'm going to see what kind of a deal the bosses will give me on a couple cases of soda.
What's the general opinion of soda? I can only get it by the full case. Pepsi or Dew? Any diet drinkers may want to be prepared. I'd hate to get a full case and only need 2 bottles of it. Or would it be best if everyone brought there own drinks? I know I'm pretty particular about what I drink but, I've got a hookup.
I also scored a pretty cool banner for us.
One thing we should all remember is a camera. Let's get a lot of cool pics and get another thread going plastered with our pics of the day. Hopefully most of them are fish.

We're going to be blessed with some of the best ice fishing weather we've had all year. Ill be rockin shorts under my snowpants.

I know this sounds retarded.  But lets all try to keep in mind that we are in the wilderness and need to respect the lake buy pickin up all of our trash.  I haven't come across any the few times ive been out, but I once went to a gathering for earth day at crandall park that was left a huge mess and spent the rest of my buzz picking up everyone elses trash. ON EARTH DAY....go figure. just thought I'd throw that out there.  No disrespect to anyone.

Did you just post that on an IS thread?
This site is made up of some of the more upstanding outdoorsmen in the woods and on the water. Keeping these places clean is something we pride ourselves in. Even if it means cleaning up after other people.
The area I have been fishing this past week is already clean. I think I've only found a few soda bottles.

Oh no. Don't tell me that. I will be at 307 at 5 and MDB by 530. I'm going to plan on fishing.
I'm going to be optimistic and say this is a dirty rumor. They were running quads all over that area just Thursday. That's not intended to discount your source fishingjenn. I just don't want to believe that is true.

Step2jimi- Do you think my laptop can get a connection on the ice? We could be running $5 sitngo's on Stars and slayin' perch at the same time. Best of both worlds man! That is, until my battery dies while holding rockets.

The last time I was there I was on fire. I had a guy flip a lid on me for sucking out with 99 on a 100 no limit table. He called my raise preflop with 1010 but never once reraised me until after the river came down. But, the fool just called each bet on each street. Of course, I sucked out the set. The idiot FINALLY makes a push on the river. I tell him, "It's not worth it for me to just call here. I might as well just go all in. Dealer, can you stack me up another benji in nickle chips? I'm all in." The dude called before my chips actually made it to the pot lol. I swear it was Emmy worthy. We had both been at the table for a while. Nice lil pot! Who's got a camp table. I've got a decent set of chips. We can play for fatheads lol.
We never thought about some plates and forks. I didn't grab any beverages at work so everyone might want to grab something for the day.

Macaroni salad on the stove right now! should be decent enough to pretend it's good. (humor me people). I'm down for 5:30 (ish) on the ice. I'm a damn slacker, ended up riding the bike today and didn't get my $#!T together today. Gotta happen early tomorrow. I'll try to hit 307 for my spikes bright and early. Leaving the tip-ups at home. I'll be at stewarts bright and early for drinks and some ships. Any last requests, speak now or forever hold your piece! see y'all tomorrow!

We're looking at a pretty good day out there guys! 45 degrees. Lots of sun. Very little wind.
I'm going to have a full size grill on the truck (Small Weber). I'm also going to bring a coleman suitcase stove.
If someone can give me a hand getting the grill out there, we can use the Weber. If it's going to be a big PITA to get out there, we can use the coleman.
The only issue I have ran into is a lack of camera, of course. The celly can snap some good pics though.
For anyone that checks this thread at the last second. Don't forget about our lil idea captJJ and I were pm'ing around. I don't think "He" is going to be showing up but we will make sure he get's it.
Time to slay some fish and have fun!
See you guys on the hardwater!

My bad oletimer. We've got 12" of ice out here. Zero slush. Conditions are beautiful and the quads are all over. There's plenty of good safe fishing to be had in certain spots on the king.

And the fish???
I saved bait from yesterday, and was contemplating coming down... Just reading the posts and not really being a perch jigging fool, thought maybe I'd go rabbit hunting instead.

The fishing is pretty slow to be honest. We've only caught a few perch and a couple pickeral. We're eating better than we're catching but having a good time. These are the best conditions I have fished in all year.

Great Time....Nice meeting alot of you.  I had the blue icearmor bibs on...Hope everyone got off without a problem. When I was walking off next to shore my foot went in...just a foot of water, no problem, right by the beach, but you should of seen my wife's face when she saw that.  She was walking behind me and stopped and would move...it took 10 minutes to get her to move to a spot that she thought looked safe....ha.  (I'm home now , I hope she made it off the ice by now...ha...j/k )  ::)

Thanks goes out to prchslyr for organizing this gathering...Great Job !

I wish I coulda been there even though the fishing was slow. A big social event on the ice, that took considerable planning and communication, is something worthwhile to bring people together. " But we are an elite race of our own, the tipup junkies, jig freaks ".

The days of great fishing action will always happen frequently enough ( not so much for me, but for those of you that know how to fish  ;), but something like this is a good time in and of itself, fish being caught a total bonus. Prchslyr is my nephew, and I am proud of the way he thought of this and devoted much time and effort to bringing you all together. I hope it is on again next year and beyond, and I will cetainly be there for the next one. I hope anyone that still wants to fish this year can find safe ice, somewhere, for a couple more weeks.
Title: Re: Team NY IS gathering thread. Get your pics up fellas.
Post by: prchslyr on Mar 07, 2010, 07:06 PM
Despite the lack of good action. I had a great time out there guys. It was nice to meet everyone.
I would be more than happy to do the honors next year. It was well worth the effort.
Thanks to everyone that showed up. Everyone pitched in with some grub, drinks, and plenty of good stories. I had so much fun shooting the breeze all day that I could've cared less if I had caught anything at all. The small handful of perch that I ended up with were a definite bonus though. ;D. Thanks Combsey for donating those slobs to my bucket. You're a soldier for toughing it out.
Thanks to captJJ for throwing ideas at me and showing up with breakfast. He had a little more to do with this than is known. Because of a great idea that he came up with. Our crew has a nice little surprise for one of the young users of this site. We don't want to let the cat out of the bag with that one yet. Everyone that had a hand in it. Pm me so that JJ and I know exactly who helped out so we can let him know. I know other people had planned on chipping in but we covered it quick. Kudos and 2 big thumbs up to captJJ for coming up with that one.
Thanks to uglystickjake for dragging half of my pile out and all of our pile back in with the quad.
Ed and Ed were a solid source of entertainment with some good stories. Broken arms and all!
We ate canadian bacon and egg sandwich's for breakfast(captJJ). We munched on some excellent bear chili(jake), sausage and peppers(me), killer pasta salad(zdake), veni-sausage that was to die for (fishinkidd), and some other stuff that I'm sure I forgot.
Thanks to my lil bro (tankdelivers) for showing up with some dry socks  ;).
It was nice meeting everyone else that I met also.
Uglystick jake got a really cool thread going with some pics. My pics pale in comparison but, I've got a few to put up.
A big thanks to everyone again. This was a group effort and a heck of a success. Call me corny but, I'm proud to be a user of this site. Here's to a great time. I'm looking forward to another gathering next year.

Lol. Good thing I kept it down low when I offered for yóu guys to bring all the perch home. I'm spent as well. Ill get some pics up on your thread then its all she wrote for me. We'll see you Tuesday man. Bird21s may join us Tuesday. After the limit of pigs I saw in his bucket, I may want to hit the beach again Tuesday. I don't know if that will be possible with the condition the shoreline was in. We should have dumped his bucket for some pics. Some of those perch were pic worthy to say the least. We will find some good safe ice for this coming week.

I should have stayed out on the ice!!! The MILF fest was a total bust, only 2 lookers. It's was great getting out to meet you guys though, I'm glad I made it out, and totally bummed i had to bail. What time did you guys end up coming in? How was the bite the rest of the day? With high 40's forecasted all week, the ice on the king surely isn't long for the world, perfect timing. Next year, I'm in, and I'll bring something better than mac salad! Be safe on late ice, guy's, i want to see y'all at next years, too!!

We stayed pretty close to dark. Thank god for celly's. We were warned that the shoreline wasn't in the greatest shape. We left before dark for safety's sake. We ended up getting a handful of perch once we got down to buisness. I was fine chilling for most of the day. Bird21s picked up a nice limit of perch. He was fishing another part of that area. After seeing his bucket 'o perch, I may have to try and squeeze in one more trip out there. I'll be doing the following tomorrow. Sorry for the bad pick yesterday guys. Next year...Bird21s is leading the pack!

Yeah, I meant to post when I got home, knowing you would be looking, but I lost power, and therefore internet. I popped a foot through coming off. real spongy. It may have been bad fishing, but it was great company. we probably would have spent less time chatting (and eating) had the fishing been amazing. Still would have been fun, but gotta find a silver lining here! High 40's all week, not looking good for shorelines. bring out the planks!
