Bro's Bug Collection.
« on: Nov 20, 2009, 03:56 PM »
Hi all,

I was checking out the Northland website the other day and came across Bro's Bug Collection.

I liked the look of the Scud Bug, Bloodworm and Hexi Fly.

Which bugs in the collection do you all prefer or have used with some success ? ???

I used the mud bug and blood worm a little last year and did ok with them. I decided to try the mud bug when the bite was tough to throw something a little different than what the fish were seeing and it worked, I was getting more hits than my friends were using the usual stuff. The red and brown colors worked best. I was going to get some of the C-9 scent formula from little atom and put a few in a small ziplock to see if it would improve thier performance because I belive they are not scented. I also picked up the Scudi from Maki palstics, it has the same shrimp type look to it but it's not quite so bulky and the plastis is much softer. I have high hopes for the Scudi this season.

If you were to pick just one go for blood worm. It is a  very productive lure

got a few of the bloodworms...pretty good on the shallow perch lakes around here...not much luck on the mud bugs...but i still like the way they look (caught the fisherman, not the fish.)

i use all the bro series tackle alot last year the bloodworm got me my PB crappie, and this fall on open water the scud bug got me my PB perch, so you could say they work, the scud bug is a more detailed jig than my favorite jig i use which is the stopper lures whipper stopper, its my go to jig for pannies!

Where did you guys find the Hexi Fly at? Was all over yesterday and was not able to find it on the shelf. May have to break down and order it from Northland. Did get the Mud Bugs and the #10 Bro Bugs.

Gander out here in NEPA has plenty of blue Hexi's.....think about this though, most fish feed up, level or down towards a bait?  The bottoms of a majority of the Bro Bug Collection...all the same or similar shades of color....hmmmm

if you are fishing deep,  the red bloodworms right on the bottom are awesome for perch. if you can get the plastic to stand vertical with the jig on the mud, it can be deadly.
Get your nets wet. Big fish dont get landed by hand ya know...cept bass

supposedly, the hexi fly's are supposed to reflect 2x the sonar waves of other similar sized jigs, I'm skeptical though, any one out there to prove me wrong as I hope there is
give me 5 good reasons to head home and I'll pretend to consider it.

Hexi Flys.  The marketing says 1/4 wave, so that's suppose to be 4X.  Also says top is concave, but all the ones I have aren't.  Still haven't tied one one yet, since I'm still using last years success methods for early ice.  I will say that other jigs, with more of a flat top, does show up better on sonar.  Example, CJS toadie.
