Yup, and a Livescope is even better and can actually see the fish in and among the weeds.

Changes the game, if one can afford it.

Use my Panoptix set up a little different. I do not fish out of same hole. Saves the trouble of taking it in and out. The Panoptix read such a wide area no need for it.With a standard flasher it is necessary to fish same hole or real close to it.

Use the PS 22 in forward vu mode to find and pinpoint their location. Then flip to Down VU to actually fish.

Only bad thing about using Panoptix on ice. It sure does attract attention. Especially when you set up in sight of group that hasn't been catching anything. Then they see you within 10 minutes of arrival starting to bust them.

I can't wait for ice to get out with Livescope. It was amazing on my kayak this summer even with the difficulties of boat positioning; I assume it'll be even better on the ice!

That video is not helping me resist the temptation of Panoptix. I need a new trolling motor for my boat, that was the big purchase of this year, but I think I need Panoptix!

Yup...tough on the budget of young families. Like sports cars and other expensive hobbies, only some afford them.

Heck, a new pickup now costs more than some sports cars.  :P

Gunflint - I've done some searching and have come up empty in the threads, probably due to my limited navigation abilities, but you seem to know a fair amount about the Garmin stuff.  Do the new Ultra units allow you to operate Livescope without the black box? Is it only the LVS12 ducer? I assume the LVS32 is better, given twice the price (but then do I need a box no matter the head unit)? I'm just starting to look at this seriously and it didn't take long to overwhelm my little brain.

Things have been updated and gotten better since I bought mine.

I think the best bet for info would be the Garmin website and then call their customer service with questions.

For something that expensive it is worth getting the best and latest data.

I think some of the stores understand all the details, but only some.

I wonder if garmin will put the livescope package for ice together and let us pick and choose what’s in it. For example, I don’t need the head unit or battery but it would be nice to get the kit that reeds is offering minus the head unit and battery.  I shall wait and see what the marketing gurus put together I reckon.

You might call Lisa at Ultimate Passage in Ohio (440-617-0025), ask her if she can get you just the BIG bag and cradle, if so, get that, buy the Livescope and pole, then put your battery and head unit in the bag and you're ready to fish (it is really no big deal to do).  She is good to work with on price, plus you can avoid the sales tax when she sends it to you since you are in MI.  Just a thought....

You can only use the LVS12 without the black box. The LVS32 currently always needs the black box, but it is far superior:
